 *Virtual Press Conference* Disturbing Trends--
 Alcohol in Iowa
 Tuesday, March 23, Noon

AC4C is hosting a press conference about the concerning trends of increased alcohol-involved deaths, increased sales and consumption of alcohol, increased middle school-aged youth alcohol use and the changes in alcohol policies resulting in increased access to alcohol for all.

There have been tremendous decreases in underage drinking over the past 15 years, but adult excessive drinking has grown during this time.  Iowa is at risk of losing all the hard work and progress made on reducing underage drinking and needs to utilize evidence-based prevention policies and practices to impact alcohol misuse for adults, children and families.  COVID-19 has only exacerbated the issues around alcohol in our state.

Join us and hear Dr. Paul Gilbert, University of Iowa College of Public Health Professor and Alcohol Expert, as well as a high school student, legislator, and a prevention specialist.  The Partnership for a Healthy Iowa Director, Peter Komendowski will emcee this news conference on how we can improve the health and save the lives of many in Iowa, especially protecting our youth.

 Youth Substance Use Prevention
"Day on the Hill"
in the books!
Thanks to Lorelle and Maggie for recording the Day on the Hill youth training ahead for our youth to use.  Below is the SODA group from Monticello High School who utilized the training.  Their sponsor, Todd Hospodarsky, said this about the day, "Everyone agreed that the press conference part was better in the sense that you could hear better (than in the Rotunda). It's hard to have as much fun with a virtual thing. Meeting with their legislator was about the same as in person. We had a good day.  For COVID, I thought it was a positive experience overall."

Thanks to MCTC, Peter Komendowski, and all the speakers, Auri, Courtney, Amaris, and Maggie. We had over 60 attend our press conference!
