COVID-19 Updates and Support
More than 1.79 million Albertans will receive the COVID-19 vaccine this spring under Phase 2 of Alberta’s vaccine distribution strategy.

Alberta’s government began offering COVID-19 vaccines to all seniors aged 75 and over provincewide. On Feb. 19, Alberta Health Services offered the vaccine directly to all residents in retirement centres, lodges, supportive living and other congregate living facilities with residents who are aged 75 or older. On Feb. 24, any Albertan living in the community who was born in 1946 or earlier will be eligible to book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine. Appointment availability will be based on vaccine supply.

This benefit will provide a one-time payment of $1,200 to eligible Albertans in recognition of their hard work. Critical workers in the health-care, social services, and education sectors as well as workers in the private sector who deliver critical basic services, or support food and medical supply chains are eligible. Employers have until Friday, March 19, 2021 to apply for the benefit on behalf of their eligible employees. Guidelines for the private sector for the Critical Worker Benefit

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant helps to cover training expenses for existing employees and new hires. If you are hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee.

Alberta parents who use child care will receive $561 per child with the new Working Parents Benefit, a one-time payment to help parents with the cost of child care

Youth Internship Incentive Program is designed to increase the number of
employers supporting work-integrated learning internships in trades and
technologies. Funding options are $1000 for 125 hours to -$3,600 for 480 hours.

This program is designed to help employers bring a new employee into a position. As part of the TOJ program, we will reimburse a percentage of the salary you pay your new employee while they learn the new job.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS for employers
Q: Will vaccinated employees still have to physically distance and wear masks?

A: Research is still ongoing as to whether vaccinated people can develop asymptomatic infections and spread COVID-19. It may also take several months before majority of the population in Canada is vaccinated and restrictions are lifted. We would advise that even as your employees start getting the shot, you should continue physical distancing, hygiene practices, using face masks and protective barriers in the workplace. MORE

2021 Provincial Budget Update
Alberta Chambers of Commerce statement on Alberta Budget

"This budget itself rests on reopening. It relies on some significant improvements—including a rebound of Alberta's economy, increased employment, and a stabilized energy market—that will quite simply not be possible with a closed down economy. If we are going to meet these targets, we don't have time to waste in getting Albertans back to work." — ACC President and CEO Ken Kobly
