The 2021 Sea Turtle Nesting Season is Here

Broward’s beaches will be filled with the “pitter-patter” of little flippers on the sand as it’s the 2021 Sea Turtle Nesting Season, which runs every year from March 1 – October 31. Many people don’t realize that nearly 70% of the nation’s sea turtle nesting takes place on Florida’s beaches. And for approximately three decades, researchers and students at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) have been administering the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program (BCSTCP) to help mother turtles and their hatchlings.

NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine Receives Provisional Accreditation

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is proud to announce that The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) has granted provisional accreditation to the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSUMD). The LCME is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in the United States and Canada, and this accreditation provides assurance that programs awarding the M.D. degree meet the national standards for educational quality.

Cleveland Clinic Weston Names Mariana Berho, M.D. as Chief of Staff

Mariana Berho, M.D. earned her Master's in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently the Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services and has been named Chief of Staff at Cleveland Clinic Weston. Dr. Berho, who has been with Cleveland Clinic Weston since 2000, is also Chief Wellness Officer for Cleveland Clinic’s Florida region.

HCAS Alumna was Guest Presenter at the Social Justice Roundtable

Michelle Cromwell, Ph.D., graduate of the master’s and doctoral programs in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCRS) in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center (HCAS) was the guest presenter at the Social Justice Roundtable held virtually on February 7, 2021. Cromwell addressed: “Hope and Unity: How do we Reflect and Respond to Racism and the Need for Social Justice and Equity?”

After more than 20 years as a proud Shark, Scott Colton B.A., APR says the students at NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine are part of his family. As a result, he has taken steps to ensure he can help future generations of students through a meaningful legacy gift commitment.

Education Alumna Named South Tippah School District Administrator of the Year

Ruby Bennett, Ed.S., graduate of NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice (FCE&SCJ) has been named the 2020-2021 Administrator of the Year by the South Tippah School District in Ripley, Mississippi.

Recruit a Shark - Virtual Career Expo

March 22 – 25, 2021

Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Center for Academic & Professional Success (CAPS) in partnership with the Office of Student Leadership & Civic Engagement, Office of Undergraduate Research, and NSU Colleges will be hosting the Spring 2021 Recruit a Shark Virtual Career Expo (Recruit a Shark Week) starting: Monday, March 22nd through Thursday, March 25th.

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale: The World of Ann Sui

Now – October 3, 2021

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will present a major retrospective exhibition of fashion designer Anna Sui now until October 3, 2021. With over 100 looks, The World of Anna Sui explores the glamorous and eclectic world of one of New York’s most beloved and accomplished designers, and invites viewers to step inside Sui’s imagination to discover her creative process and the diverse influences that contribute to her signature aesthetic sensibility.

NSU & Coral Restoration Foundation™ Join Forces to Save Coral Diversity

Around the world, coral reefs are under pressure from a host of stressors including global warming, pollution, and disease events. Some of the most threatened coral reefs in the world can be found off the Florida coast. For many years, students and researchers at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Halmos College of Arts and Sciences have been at the forefront of coral reef research efforts. They are now teaming up with Coral Restoration Foundation™ (CRF™) – the world’s leading coral restoration non-profit – to take their work to the next level.

NSU College of Dental Medicine host Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awareness Week

In January, the NSU College of Dental Medicine’s Humanism and Diversity Committee honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and dedicated January 18-22, 2021 to “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness.” The goal of this week was to help emphasize the importance of maintaining and enhancing humanism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to provide educational information and opportunities for students, faculty, and staff members to get involved.
