Spring General Election April 6
The spring general election will be held in Wind Point on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at The Wind Point Public Works Garage, 215 E. Four Mile Road between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 pm. Races on the ballot include: State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Village President, Village Trustee and Municipal Court Judge.

A sample ballot for this election will be available from the county approximately 21 days prior to the election. When it is available, a sample ballot will be placed on the Village web site at http://www.windpoint.org.

Absentee Voting – by mail
If you requested a mailed ballot for elections in 2020 and wish to receive a mailed ballot for elections in 2021, you will need to make a new request.

Absentee ballots for this election will be mailed out to those with requests on file beginning on March 16. Electors wishing to receive an absentee ballot by mail may do so by submitting a request online at My Vote Wisconsin or at the Village Office. The deadline to request that an absentee ballot be mailed to a voter is Thursday, April 1. Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on election day in order to be counted.

Absentee Voting – in person
In-person absentee voting will be available on weekdays, March 23 though April 2, at the Village Office, 215 E Four Mile Road, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. A valid photo ID is required to obtain a ballot. In person voting will occur inside the office. The office will be limited to a capacity of four voters at a time. If you arrive and there are more than four voters we are asking that you wait outside. We ask that you please wear a mask.

Voter Registration
Residents wishing to register or re-register to vote may do so in several ways.
  • You may register to vote via mail or online at My Vote Wisconsin. The deadline to register by mail or online is Wednesday, March 17.
  • You may register to vote in person at the Village Office. The final day to register to vote at the office is Friday, April 2 at 5:00 p.m.
  • You may register to vote on Election Day, April 6, 2020 at the polls.

When registering to vote you will need to make sure that you have an appropriate document that shows your Wind Point address. To see a list of documents that are acceptable to use please click here.

Former Wind Point School Development Update
The Village's Architectural Review Board will meet on Wednesday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom to review revisions made by Newport Development to the development at the former Wind Point School property.

The meeting will include a presentation by Newport Development regarding the changes that have been made to the proposed designs of the buildings and members of the ARB will ask the developer questions.

2021 Yard Waste Pick Up Information
Beginning on April 5, Johns Disposal will pick up yard waste from Village residences without the need for stickers. Yard waste will be collected every other Monday on the same day as recycling pick up. Residents may continue to use compostable paper bags, or they may use reusable containers that are 32 gallons or less in size. When full, bags or containers cannot weigh more than 60 pounds. 
 
Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, yard and garden debris, and brush including clean woody vegetative material no greater than 4 inches in diameter. Yard waste does not include stumps or shrubs with intact root-balls.

There are no changes to the branch pick up program. Monthly branch collection by the Village Public Works Department will begin on Tuesday, April 13.

If you have any unused yard waste stickers you may bring them to the Village Office for a refund. The stickers must be unused and cannot have been affixed to a bag. We will be offering sticker refunds until April 30.

Compostable bags can still be used for yard waste pick up. No more than 30 bags may be put out. 
Reusable garbage cans can now be used for yard waste pick up. Cans should be labeled as “Yard Waste” and be no larger in size than 32 gal.
Open Lighthouse Tower Climbs 2021
The Village has not yet made a determination on holding Open Lighthouse Tower Climbs for 2021, due to the uncertainties from the COVID pandemic. The Parks, Recreation, Facilities & Lighthouse Committee is planning to review the Village's ability to have tower climbs at a meeting this spring.

Tower Climbs for private groups can still be arranged based on the Lighthouse Keeper's availability. Groups can only include individuals who live within the same household. Tower climb charge is $15.00 per adult (ages 12 and up) and $7.50 for children (ages 6-11) with an $80.00 minimum. Tower climbs are not available for children under the age of 6.

Dog License Reminders
Don’t forget to license your dog!

A late fee of $10 is assessed for any applications that are received after April 1.

A dog license application, along with the license fee and copy of rabies certificate, should be submitted for each dog by mail, dropbox or in-person at the Village Office.

Licenses cannot be processed without a non-expired rabies certificate containing the manufacturer, serial number, and expiration date of the vaccination. If applying by mail or in the drop-box, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the tag and receipt to be returned to you. If you do not include a self-addressed stamped envelope, your license will be kept at the Village Office to be picked up.

If you recently adopted a dog, or plan to soon, please keep in mind dog owners need to obtain a license within 30 days of ownership.

Village Board Updates
The Village Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on February 11, 2021. The following actions took place at the meeting:

  • Approved the revised purchase and sale agreement with KEW Investments (Korndoerfer Homes) for the property at 4403 Main Street.
  • Approved Resolution 21-R01 a resolution amending the 2020 Village Budget.
  • Reviewed the Village's Fourth Quarter of 2020 Investment Report.
  • Reviewed the Wind Point Police Department's accreditation report regarding use of force policies.
  • Reviewed a citizens request to amend the Village's open burning ordinance and recommended that the Public Works Committee review proposed ordinance changes.
  • Reviewed a citizens request to ban coal based tar sealants and referred the request to the Public Works Committee for further review.
