House Notes | March 2021
One Year of COVID-19
"As we look back on a year marked by uncertainty and a test of our ability to adapt to a new reality, it seems as if we’ve gone through a lifetime of challenges, not just a mere 12 months. From March 16, 2020, the date San Francisco officially began shelter in place and when operations at Family House drastically changed, I have been consistently impressed by the dedication of our staff, the Board of Directors and our donors. If we had not quickly pulled together as a team, we would not have made it through those first scary months of making hard but essential decisions."

Paul Goold, Director of Family Services, continues to find ways to connect with and support our kids. Here is a special song Paul wrote with 11 year old Kody, who has been coming to Family House for treatment related to Sturge Weber Syndrome (SWS).

Kody comes to stay at Family House during his annual treatments and appointments at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. From Crescent City, California, Kody wanted this song to be about helping children, and his inspiration of "We Are Peace" is this beautiful message to all of us, especially to raise awareness of his condition and help other children who may have similar or worse SWS experiences.
We're Getting Vaccinated!
Family House Staff have been getting their COVID-19 vaccinations and are looking forward to being together again with our families as soon as it is safe for the most vulnerable population we serve.
March Craft Activity
Have you seen rainbows this month yet? The Family Services Committee's March art activities offer three different creative ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Make a Leprechaun Hat, Shamrock Rainbow or your very own Leprechaun Binoculars!

Check out the simple step-by-step instructions and share your creations with us @familyhousesf on social media!
This past Valentine’s Day we were able to pass out treat bags to our families currently staying with us. Here’s Anastasia and her sister with big smiles as they received their goodies!
Here's an old family photo from 1988 that we pulled from the archives as we continue to celebrate 40 years of compassion.

Beverly and her then 4-year old Stephanie were at Family House for a visit after a good checkup!
Family House continues to be open during the COVID-19 health crisis. Though we are operating with a significantly smaller staff and have suspended nearly all volunteer activities, we are committed to maintaining our mission of providing compassionate care and dignity to families in need.
