From Our President

SPAM EMAILS TO LAA MEMBERS
Recently LAA members (mostly those with gmail accounts) have been receiving emails supposedly from LAA asking them for money, gift cards, and/or call backs. The LAA would NEVER email, phone call, or text asking for money, gift cards, call backs, etc.
The reason why this is being brought up is that anytime a bulk mailing is sent out (like the ones we send to our members), it may generate a few spam pulls. Not to be confused with hacking, spam cannot invade your personal information unless you feed it with such. However, it may look like it comes directly from the LAA and may ask you to do favors for us. We would never ask our members to do any type of personal favors.
You can tell when it’s an official LAA mailing because it comes from email address bsartista@yahoo.com Just ignore the ones without this return address and DO NOT respond. Your email is selected at random via a program that spammers use. If you answer the email, then they have your email address and will add it to their spam list.
CONGRATULATIONS
BRENDA TURNER
On your acrylic painting on paper, “The Shopper”, being accepted into the Georgia Watercolor Society, 2021 National Exhibition. From 347 submissions, 80 works were chosen by Judge John Salminen. The exhibit is located at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, Carrollton, Georgia and runs from April 5 through May 14.
Also, another of Brenda’s paintings, “Woman with Dog” was accepted this past fall into the South Carolina Watermedia Society, 43rd Annual National Exhibition. Due to CPVID, this show was virtual with Judge Ted Nuttall selecting 71 pieces. All are available for viewing on-line at scwatermedia.com
Should any member have news regarding an award, exhibition, or show they’ve recently been involved in, please send it to bsartista@yahoo.com so we can share good news with our fellow artists!

The Landings Art Association
Announces its
March 2021 Art Exhibit
featuring Artist of the Month
Daryl R. Nicholson
LAA/Sound View Palmetto Gallery
March 4 – April 6
The Landings Art Association invites you to the LAA/Sound View Gallery at the Palmetto Club from March 4 through April 6 to view Let’s Face It, a special exhibit of faces and figures by Artist of the Month, Daryl Nicholson.
Daryl is an award-winning Georgia artist, best known for her figurative paintings. She often intertwines a group of people while obscuring the background, using vintage and current photographs, as well as life drawing for reference. Impressionist in style, she likes to push the limits of color and paint application, using strong design, vibrant colors, and distinct brush strokes. Essentially, her philosophy is to "break the rules ~ that’s what keeps it fun"!
The work in this exhibit includes acrylics, mixed media, and watercolors, with styles ranging from abstract impressionism to realism, as well as experimentation with painting surfaces and watercolor finishing techniques that do not require glass. To describe the inspiration for this particular exhibit, there are no words better than the artist’s own:
“Let’s face it...the past year has been like no other. We’ve all experienced the stress of being isolated from family and friends, fearing COVID and the unknown. But I feel there’s a sense that perhaps the pandemic can help us reevaluate our lives and focus on what is truly important.
“I’ve spent the past months searching for direction. I’ve ‘Zoomed’ many online art classes and workshops, trying to find inspiration and rationalize art in a world where so many people are suffering. With this exhibit, I depict women from my own history as well as others I’ve imagined. Most are portrayed as individuals, but when I visualize them, I see them as being linked to each other. We humans are all connected, even when we are separated by distance, and that connection is what matters most to me as an artist.
“Millions of Americans are out of work and face hunger due to the coronavirus pandemic. In an effort to reach out, I plan to donate 50% of all art sales to FEEDING AMERICA. If you are looking to fill an empty space on a wall at your home or office, please consider my work, knowing that a purchase will not only fill an empty space but will also fill an empty stomach. Thank you for your support!”
Daryl's work has been accepted into numerous juried exhibitions, winning awards at the local, regional, and national levels. Her paintings can be found in many private and corporate collections. Professional organizations include: Board Member of the Landings Art Association, Signature Member of the Light, Space and Time Online Gallery, Merit Member of the Atlanta Artists Center, and Past President and Signature Member of the Georgia Watercolor Society.
The LAA Artist of the Month opening receptions are still on hold, however, our exhibits at the Palmetto Club Gallery continue to showcase the work of our very talented artists. Please don’t miss this very special exhibit. You may contact Daryl Nicholson directly at 404-664-6741. Her website is darylnicholson.com.

GOOD NEWS…
THE LAA/MERRILL ATRIUM GALLERY
TO CHANGEOVER ART WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7
We’ve recently received word that Merrill would like to start getting back to its normal schedule with regard to LAA art changeover. While Merrill is still open by appointment only, there are many people who do just this on a daily basis. This means that the LAA’s art would be in a highly visible location once again.
Therefore, beginning Wednesday, April 7 from 1-3 PM, LAA members may come to the REAR DOOR ONLY and submit 2 pieces of any size 2D or 3D art for show/sale in the LAA/Merrill Atrium Gallery.
When entering the building, please be sure to wear a mask, sign your work in, and then immediately leave. Feel free to chat with friends outside only. Since this is an at work facility, noise needs to remain at a minimum so as not to disturb.
Feel free to print the below waiver and bring it with you, to speed up drop-off.
