The month of March mobilizes hundreds of local Meals on Wheels programs across the country to reach out to their communities and build the support that will enable them to serve America's seniors all year long. The 19th annual March for Meals celebration gives the businesses, organizations, governments and volunteers who contribute so generously in their communities an opportunity to support homebound seniors in a variety of ways to make America stronger and healthier.
Mini Irish Soda Bread
This traditional Irish soda bread is easy to make and requires just a few simple ingredients. Made without yeast, this quick bread recipe yields one small loaf. With a perfectly tender crumb and a wonderful golden crust, this soda bread pairs well with soups, chilis, stews, or alone with butter.

There are many versions of Irish soda bread and everyone seems to have their favorite.

Some folks say it's not authentic if the bread doesn't have currents or caraway seeds. Others say it shouldn't be sweet, while others want it sweeter. Any way you slice it, Irish soda bread has fans in all corners and today I'm sharing with you a scaled down version of my family's Irish soda bread recipe.

Irish soda bread is a quick bread that does not require any yeast. The essential ingredients in a traditional Irish soda bread recipe are flour, buttermilk, baking soda, and salt.

The baking soda is used as a leavening agent instead of yeast and the acid in the buttermilk reacts with the base of the baking soda to help the bread rise.

Traditionally, before baking a cross would be cut on the top of the bread. This cross was said to symbolize a blessing of the bread and to protect the household. In reality, scoring the dough helps the heat reach the center of the loaf as it bakes.

How to Make Buttermilk
  1. Dairy Swap. All you need is whole or 2-percent milk and fresh lemon juice or white distilled vinegar.
  2. Use Milk. Pour the milk into a liquid measuring cup. ...
  3. Add an Acid. For every 1 cup of milk, stir in 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar. ...
  4. Ready to Use! The acid will curdle the milk slightly. ...
  5. Buttermilk On Demand.
Vitamins and Minerals for Older Adults
Is your afternoon pick-me-up a downer for your heart health? Packaged grub tends to have more sodium, sugar, and trans fat than your bod needs for its best (and longest) life.

Solution: Sub in in some heart-healthy snacks to keep your ticker happy and your belly full.

National Dishes Around the World
An extensive list of national dishes from around the world which form an important part of the culinary identity of the country they belong to.

A national dish is any country’s culinary, and to a large extent, cultural identity. However, there are some countries which do not have an official national dish. In such countries, some dishes have gained so much importance, they are considered the de facto – although unofficial – national dish. In some cases, national dishes have been decided through general public voting by organizations (that may or may not have affiliation from the government).
