March Is Women’s History Month! Are you ready to keep the celebration going?
Businesses and individuals around the country have spent the month of March celebrating National Women’s History Month. But while the month may be nearly over, the need to support female entrepreneurs is not.

Women-owned businesses are on the rise, seeing significant growth over the past 5 years - and many years prior. But women-run companies still face an uphill battle toward business success, especially compared to their male-run counterparts.

The Revenue Gap Among Women-Owned Businesses
From the 2019 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report
Despite years of growth, the earnings disparity between minority women-owned businesses and non-minority women-owned business is on the rise, according to the 2019 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report

As of 2019, women of color accounted for 50% of all women-owned businesses in the United States. But the disparity between minority- and non-minority women owned businesses is growing. In 2019, minority-owned businesses generated an average off $65,800 in revenue. That same year, non-minority women-owned businesses averaged $218,800 in revenue.

Angela’s Pasta and Cheese Shop - Manchester, NH
Owner: Steve Freeman
Angela’s Pasta and Cheese Shop has long been a Manchester, NH institution, offering fresh pastas, local pastries and imported cheese and wine for almost 40 years. So when new owner Steve Freeman took over the business in July 2020, he knew his plan was to build upon the foundation that already existed.

Over the last several months, Steve and the team at Angela’s have worked to do just that, seeking to have a positive impact on the community. One way they’ve tried to make a difference: by reducing the amount of waste they send to the landfill. This time last year, they were filling a three-yard dumpster three times a week. But after reevaluating packaging and disposal practices and adding a dedicated cardboard recycling dumpster, they have been able to start emptying the dumpster less than once a week.

Going forward, Angela’s will continue its commitment to making the community stronger and being the place where shoppers can find unique speciality products not carried at larger grocery stores.
