CHAIR MESSAGE

Christopher Buehler
Four Lakes Recreation

Hello Fellow Chamber Members!

I hope this newest newsletter finds you warm and well. February was so cold that even winter sports enthusiasts found it to be too cold! I’m sure some of us were hoping to work from home again or were happy to be working remotely through the cold snap that we experienced. The colder weather seems to have left us for now, and we are all looking forward to warmer temperatures, more sunshine and the start of the spring season. Before we know it we’ll be in the middle of summer wishing for cooler weather to return.

While we are still working, meeting and socializing digitally why not consider attending a virtual LINCT meeting on Wednesday March 16th at 3pm? LINCT meetings are a great opportunity to network with local professionals and discuss ideas, events and more! This month’s meeting will also include a virtual tour of Villa St. Benedict. The meeting is free to attend, and login information for the session can be obtained by emailing Claudine at the chamber.

Some exciting news from outside of our little slice of paradise. The Chicago Park District and the City of Chicago are beginning to open the lakefront and the play areas and green spaces around the lake! This is genuinely exciting news for me as it shows that while we still need to be cautious, we can start to enjoy some of the great outdoor activities that our beautiful state is known for!

Looking forward to the day when we can see each other in person, until then, a virtual hello and fist bump to each and every one of you.

Respectfully,

Christopher Buehler

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE

Jill Eidukas, Executive Director

As I write this I am thinking about last year, specifically March 6, 2020. The Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a successful “Evening in Paris, Ooh La La Lisle“ Dinner Dance at the Doubletree by Hilton Lisle/Naperville. One week later the Governor issued the stay in place order for Illinois. I can’t believe it has been a year already. There have been so many things we have learned in a year. Businesses moved to remote work and virtual meetings. Events are held virtually. Scientists have developed a vaccine in 12 months. We have all learned how to adapt to the new way of life.

We are ready to get back to seeing our Members in person. We have Members that are asking to book their Ribbon Cuttings and Business After Hours in the 3rd quarter of this year. We are planning our Golf Outing and some other events. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Slowly and safely we will move forward in our lives and businesses.

Chamber Member Your Promo Partners is designing a Shop Local, Dine Local T-shirt that we will be selling on our website for a limited time only. We will send out an e-blast soon promoting the t-shirt design. A portion of the proceeds will be used for the Chamber Scholarship Fund. Keep a look out in your emails for details on how to purchase your t-shirt.

For the time being, we are continuing to offer free e-blasts to our Members as well as free ads in our monthly newsletters. Contact Claudine or I if you have any questions. We are here for you and your business!

Be well. Be safe.

Virtual Multi-Chamber Progressive Networking Event

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT
Jim Provenzale
Fast Forward Design Associates, Inc.

This month's featured Ambassador is Jim Provenzale. Jim is the owner and Creative Director of Fast Forward Design Associates, Inc. He produces lasting and intuitive corporate identity systems, impactful print & package design, dynamic web sites and professional video and photography for clients of all sizes and industries. Jim has been in this industry for over 27 years.

Jim has been a Lisle Area Chamber Member for 5 years and has been on the Ambassador Committee for about the same amount of time. He enjoys it tremendously. Although times, of late, have proven to be challenging, he finds his association with those in the Lisle Area Chamber to be extremely valuable in staying in front of his clients.

Jim lives in Downers Grove and has 3 children and a chocolate Labrador. He is an avid hockey fan, a coach and plays recreationally in several men's leagues throughout the Chicago area. His favorite bit of wisdom to impart was an old family quote from his immigrant Irish grandfather, "Throw your hat over the wall and go after it." His grandfather always understood that calculated risks are what being an entrepreneur is all about. Jim believes that small business is the life-blood of every community - and the Lisle Area Chamber, its members, certainly embody the foundation of that belief.

Universal Technical Institute Announces
First Agricultural Manufacturer Training Program
with AGCO

PHOENIX—February 03, 2021Universal Technical Institute (NYSE: UTI), the nation’s leading provider of trained technicians to the transportation industry, announced its first-ever agricultural manufacturing training program with AGCO Corporation (NYSE:AGCO), a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of agricultural machinery and solutions. The Fendt® Technician Academy will launch at UTI’s Lisle, Illinois campus, outside of Chicago, in Fall 2021.

“It’s extremely exciting to launch UTI’s first-ever agricultural manufacturing training program at our Lisle campus with an impressive manufacturer like AGCO,” said Sherrell Smith, executive vice president, campus operations“Since many of our Diesel program graduates go to work in the agriculture industry, we saw true value to our students in offering manufacturer-specific advanced training and credentials in agricultural equipment. It has been an honor to work with AGCO to develop an innovative program to meet the growing demand for trained tractor technicians.”

This 12-week advanced program trains students to work with Fendt’s exclusive technology to gain in-depth knowledge about the brand’s engines, powertrains, hydraulics, electronics and Fuse® technology. Classes will be limited to 12-15 students and will be taught by Fendt-certified program instructors who will bring their real-world industry experience to the program. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be associate, expert and Fendt Technical Theory certified.

"AGCO’s premium Fendt brand has experienced tremendous growth and expansion across North America in recent years, and that’s led to increased demand from farmers and dealers for qualified technicians to support Fendt’s industry-leading equipment,” said Ed Barry, director, after sales & customer support training North America. "The caliber of students graduating from UTI’s core Diesel Technology program is tremendous, and we are excited to launch the Fendt Technician Academy to train and certify more Fendt technicians to meet industry demands and create excellent jobs that serve America’s agriculture industry."

Despite record numbers of Americans filing unemployment claims during the COVID-19 pandemic, demand has risen for skilled technicians across the transportation and agriculture industries. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has deemed many of these jobs essential to supporting the nation's infrastructure during the health crisis, and UTI employer participants, including AGCO, continue to report a need for trained technicians.

U.S. Small Business Administration Press Release - February 22, 2021

WASHINGTON – Building on a month of strong results, the Biden-Harris Administration and the U.S. Small Business Administration are taking steps with the Paycheck Protection Program to further promote equitable relief for America’s mom-and-pop businesses.

The latest round of Paycheck Protection Program funding opened one month ago and already the Biden Administration has succeeded in making major improvements to the program’s implementation:

  • For businesses with fewer than ten employees, the share of funding is up nearly 60%
  • For businesses in rural communities, the share of funding is up nearly 30%
  • The share of funding distributed through Community Development Financial Institutions and Minority Depository Institutions is up more than 40%

“The SBA is a frontline agency working to create an inclusive economy, focused on reaching women-owned, minority-owned, low- and moderate-income, rural, and other underserved communities in meaningful ways. While reported data illustrates we have made real strides in ensuring these funds are reaching underserved communities, we believe we can still do better,” says SBA Senior Advisor Michael Roth. “The important policy changes we are announcing further ensure inclusivity and integrity by increasing access and much-needed aid to Main Street businesses that anchor our neighborhoods and help families build wealth.”

These simple progressive steps by the Biden-Harris Administration further demonstrate the commitment to racial and gender equity, reaching low and moderate-income, rural, urban, and other underserved areas. The SBA will:

  • Establish a 14-day, exclusive PPP loan application period for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employees
  • Allow sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals to receive more financial support by revising the PPP’s funding formula for these categories of applicants
  • Eliminate an exclusionary restriction on PPP access for small business owners with prior non-fraud felony convictions, consistent with a bipartisan congressional proposal
  • Eliminate PPP access restrictions on small business owners who have struggled to make federal student loan payments by eliminating federal student loan debt delinquency and default as disqualifiers to participating in the PPP; and
  • Ensure access for non-citizen small business owners who are lawful U.S. residents by clarifying that they may use Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to apply for the PPP.

The 14-day exclusivity period will start on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 9 a.m. (EST), while the other four changes will be implemented by the first week of March. The SBA is working on the program changes and will communicate details throughout this week.

These actions will help to lay the foundation for a robust and equitable recovery for small businesses across the country. Small businesses employ nearly half of the American workforce; they create 2 out of 3 net new private-sector jobs; they reinvest 68% of revenues to build and sustain communities. Borrowers can apply for the Paycheck Protection Program by downloading the First Draw PPP loan application or Second Draw PPP loan application and working with a participating PPP lender through the SBA Lender Match tool.

Through SBA’s nationwide district offices, the Agency will work in close partnership with the Administration to further leverage its resource partner network and expand on multilingual access and outreach about the PPP. Updated PPP information, including forms, guidance, and resources is available at www.sba.gov/ppp and www.treasury.gov/cares.
