Women's History Month
Celebrating 30 Years of Women
Writing for (a) Change
|
“When women and girls are safe, empowered, prosperous, expressive and authentic, so is society.” ~Mary Pierce Brosmer, Founder Women Writing for (a) Change
Women Writing for (a) Change® was founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer, a practicing poet and former English teacher. She developed WWf(a)C to encourage women to find their voices, speak their truths and tell their stories in a world in which they were often silenced.
Mary”s vision, as she began her first weekly writing circle:
To bring the feminine more fully into expression by supporting the voices and stories of girls and women of all races, classes, and nations.
Now, 30 years later, WWf(a)C continues to welcome women, girls, and all genders, growing and deepening offerings in response to demand, and spreading these practices through affiliates in other parts of the country. Thanks to all of you who are and have been a part of this history!

Welcome to our monthly series, Get to Know! Here, we’ll turn the spotlight on contemporary Black and Brown poets and writers, with the goal of amplifying under-represented voices in literature. These writers’ books are currently available in the Women Writing for (a) Change library.
Ada Limón’s most recent, award-winning collection, The Carrying, begins with “A Name”:
When Eve walked among
the animals and named them—
nightingale, red-shouldered hawk,
fiddler crab, fallow deer—
I wonder if she ever wanted
them to speak back, looked into
their wide wonderful eyes and
whispered, Name me, name me.

2021 WWf(a)C V-DAY Goes Virtual
|
A big thanks to all who attended and supported
V-DAY 2021: Raise The Vibration! On February 20th, twenty talented writers shared their own heartfelt stories, poems and songs of strength, courage, and hope. Over 90 households logged in to share in this powerful, virtual event, not only in Cincinnati, but across the country. Ticket sales plus donations raised over $3,500 to fund programs, including writing circles, for survivors of abuse in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Gratitude to the readers and technical helpers who made this possible, and to the indomitable Laurie Lambert, who has now organized and led V-DAY events at Women Writing for (a) Change for nine years in a row. Much appreciation to all who made this event such a success!
