Private Investors Growing Southern Idaho's Economy

Dear Business Plus Partners,

Business Plus held its First Quarter Meeting on February 26th via Zoom with over 50 people attending. Dean Fisher, President of the College of Southern Idaho, spoke about the challenges they face, but more importantly, the unique success CSI is experiencing with an increase in head count, credit hours, solid budget, and no school-year furloughs. Fisher explained that CSI's story is very different than the national picture.

President Fisher spoke about CSI's recently approved Strategic Plan Summary, Student Experience Commitment, and Peer Groups. President Fisher offered to share his weekly President's Notes, if you are interested, email Ginger Nukaya.

Connie Stopher, Director of Southern Idaho Economic Development, highlighted three new projects: Elixir, Fiber and Bio. All three are in rural communities and Stopher and her team are assisting with state and county tax incentives, property searches, zoning issues, conditional use permits, local outreach and PR. These three projects will have a regional impact of $23M in Capital Expenditures and create 72 new jobs.

Return on Investment is significant with just these three projects:

To help smaller communities, Connie Stopher, Ervina Covcic and Madeleine Bumstead are working on booklets for rural REDS communities called "How to do business in BLANK" with Buhl's coming out first. Additionally, they are working on identifying needs for infrastructure, assisting with broadband grants, capacity building and trainings, and community development including Operation Facelift.

Project Elixir announced on March 1, 2021. See news below.
