NAMI SUSSEX HOSTS A SPECIAL SCREENING OF THE MOVIE "ANGST" - March 15th, 7:00-8:30 pm

NAMI Sussex invites you to join us for a free online screening of the powerful IndieFlix documentary film “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety”. Kids and teens share their struggles with anxiety and discuss its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope. Mental health experts explain the causes and sociological effects of anxiety and recommend resources and tools available to address the condition. The 55-minute film will be followed by an informative panel discussion with one of the filmmakers and expert guests.

TRAUMA IN EVERYDAY LIFE, PTSD AND MENTAL HEALTH - FREE PRESENTATION -
MONDAY, MARCH 29, 7 - 8:30 pm

NAMI Sussex will host a presentation on Trauma in Everyday Life, PTSD and Mental Health, led by Linda Busch-Somach, PhD. Dr. Busch is a Licensed Psychologist who has close to 30 years of experience working in the trauma-related mental health field. Her presentation will focus on the impact of trauma in everyday life, as well as Trauma Disorders such as PTSD, Acute Stress Disorder and what is now unofficially referred to as Chronic Stress Disorder or COVID related stress disorder. The impact of trauma on those already affected by serious mental health conditions such as as Bipolar Disorder, Depression and Schizophrenia and their loved ones or caregivers will also be discussed. Topics such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, Complex PTSD and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder will be discussed along with how to cope with triggers or symptoms, medications that are sometimes used in the treatment of trauma and how to prevent or lessen the impact of traumatic events. Participants will be invited, if they wish, to practice trauma reducing exercises, to share insights and ask questions.

The co-facilitators of the group are Annette Hoffman and Charles Cantelmo.
Tuesday Mar. 23 - PTS CONNECTION PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUP for veterans, police and first responders recovering from Post-Traumatic Stress as a result of their service.

Sensory Challenges and Anxiety in Children with and without Autism Sensory experiences have a significant impact on behavior throughout the lifespan, but particularly early in life. Some individuals have heightened and unusual reactions to sensory stimuli, such as particular sounds or textures. Dr. Carpenter will present research, which builds on a growing body of literature, linking early sensory hypersensitivity to anxiety and a number of additional behavioral challenges, namely sleep issues and irritability in both typical development, as well as in young children with autism. NAMI Homefront is a free, 6-session program for family, friends and significant others of military Service Members and Veterans. The class helps families understand what the Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, civilian life transition, PTSD and other mental health conditions.
The program is designed to help family members understand and support their Service Member/Veteran while maintaining their own well-being. NAMI Homefront leaders have personal experience with mental health conditions impacting their Service Member/ Veteran. The class is free but you are expected to attend all six sessions. You must have access to a laptop, PC or tablet with a stable internet connection to participate. To hear audio, you will need to call in via telephone. We recommend you use a headset or headphones.
