With the start of March, our attention shifts to Women's History Month which some trace back to the March 8th 1857 demonstrations staged by women working in New York City garment and textile factories, protesting their poor working conditions. Innumerable protests and marches have followed which have aided in the evolution of American labor practices and women's rights. Looking at the present, we can see the enormous steps forward women have made in their fight for equality and respect, and, despite various setbacks, we hold high visions for the next generations.

“This work brings labor's history to life with stories and voices that have echoed down through generations.” —Sara Nelson, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants
Talking to the Girls is a written memorial to the workers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of March 25, 1911, where 146 workers, mostly young immigrant women and girls, lost their lives. Talking to the Girls brings together stories from writers, artists, activists, scholars, and family members of the Triangle workers to speak on this tragic event that had a remarkable impact in factory workers' rights in this country and beyond.

Artists in My Life
by Margaret Randall
“Margaret Randall’s Artists in My Life clearly shows how a writer can gain sustenance and guidance from the work and the lives of a range of visual artists, photographers, and architects.” —Kenny Fries, award-winning author of In the Province of the Gods
Artists in My Life is a collection of intimate and conversational accounts of the visual artists that have impacted the renowned poet activist Margaret Randall on her own journey as an artist. Each story offers insight into the artist’s life and work, and analyses the impact it had on Randall’s own work and on the larger art community.

Meeting the Moment
Socially Engaged Performance, 1965–2020, by Those Who Lived It
by Jan Cohen-Cruz and Rad Pereira
In this work, performance artists reflect on how artists are educated and supported, what content is deemed valuable and how it is brought to bear, as well as which audiences are welcome and whether cross-community exchange is encouraged. The book’s voices bring the reader from 1965 through the first wave of the covid-19 pandemic in 2020. They point to more diverse and inclusive practices and give hope for the future of the art.
