A LENTEN MESSAGE FROM FR. CHRIS
|
|
I just took a walk around the track with our pups, Belle and Louie, and I was so excited to enjoy the warm sun, see some green start budding on the trees, and see all the building happening here at Camp! As I walk down by the pool I see two cabins being built, one for campers and one for male staff. And as I look across the field, I see several workers replacing windows and siding on our beautiful Saint Ignatius Chapel.
From my office I can see the work on the church happening, and I am constantly reminded of what we are called to do to ourselves during this season of Great Lent.
We are all excited for the workers to install the new windows and siding. However, they must first remove the old windows and siding that is weathered, brittle, discolored, and deteriorating. These old materials no longer protect the chapel as they once did and need to be removed in order to properly restore it.
As Christians, we believe our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, which means our bodies are like little chapels. Just as we must remove the old siding and windows before we replace them, we must also tear away our sins, temptations, and vices that cause our souls to be weathered, brittle, discolored, and deteriorating. Through fasting, worship, almsgiving, and prayer - all important tools the Church offers us during this period of Great Lent - we too can restore our own "chapels". These tools from the Church allow us to put on new siding and windows to our souls to help protect us from the devil and all his temptations, to help us weather the storms in life, so that our chapels can shine with the light of Christ.
As we move closer to the Resurrection and as we continue through Great Lent together, let us all care for our bodies and souls with as much dedication and love as we care for our beloved Saint Ignatius Chapel here at Antiochian Village. May God give us all strength to continue this Lenten journey!

Earlier this month, we broke ground on the site of 2 new cabins!
The first cabin will be located in Unit 4 and has allowed us to increase our boys capacity by 16 campers each session! The second will be located across from the pool and will house our male support staff!
Our construction team is hard at work, getting these buildings up for the summer!
