Greetings from your president who is now part of the Covid club. I missed you all last month but thankful for an amazing VP- David O’Dell who stepped in and di a great job.

As far back as the Civil War and World War 1, quilting has been a hobby used to fundraise for various efforts. We are still selling tickets for the quilt to be given away at the HQH Quilt Show in March, please consider picking up some and selling them and if you have money to turn in bring your stubs and turn in this month. We still need volunteers to man the booth and to set up and break down. Please see Susan Yell and consider doing your part.

We will be handing out the bags for our brown bag challenge in April and there is a form on our site you can fill out to go in it, please consider participating and filling out the form and bringing to the meeting. The bags will be turned back in with projects completed at the October 13th meeting.

Our speaker this month is Robin Price from Sweet Home Quilting – we are excited to hear about her shop- classes- supplies and beautiful fabric that they carry. Robin is also a representative and distributor for the longarm community.

Looking forward to seeing all my quilting and sewing friends.

Thank You-

Sonya O’Shields

Last chance to donate goodies for sale at our booth at the HSV Show! Besides homemade items, think about bringing fat quarters rolled up that we will sell at the booth. Bring them to the meeting and hand them off to Susan Yell. She will take your items and pass out tickets. Thanks to all who participate.

Charity.png

As the Charity person for this year, I’ve been talking with various organizations to see if they have a need for any quilt related items. I

I asked the Madison Senior Center if they would like placements for the seniors they provide meals to each week. They said they would love that. I am requesting 30 placements for them. Placements should be about 14”x18”. There is a mix of men and women.

The Grandparents as Parents Organization was thrilled when I asked if they could use some quilts. I’m asking for throw size quilts which will be for children, from infants to age 18. I’d like to keep the size 50”x60” to 60”x70”.

I’m still working with The Den/DHR to see if we can help with their needs. I also plan on contacting the hospital to see if they would like pillowcases. I know that has been a big need in the past. So stay tuned on these two organizations.

Please contact me at the number/email below:

  • If you have any quilts or placements you’d like to donate,
  • If you have quilts that need quilting
  • If you are willing to quilt some of the charity quilts
  • If you need batting for charity quilts (Guild purchased some)
  • If you need backing fabric (Southern Charm Quilting donated some that I’ve been using as backing for my charity quilts).

To recap we need:

  • 30 Placements for the Madison Senior Center
  • Quilts for the Grandparents as Parents Organization

Project Linus.png

Project Linus is looking for quilts. They provide quilts to Huntsville Hospital NICU and PICU. They also provide quilts to Kids to Love and Manna House and support two hospice grief support groups, Kindred Hospice in HSV and The Healing Place in Muscle Shoals. Tina Melton is the Project Linus Coordinator. Completed quilts or quilt tops can be dropped off at Southern Charm Quilting. There is a bin by the longarm machine where you can drop them off. Those wanting to quilt them, that is where you can get them and return them. There have been over 50 quilts quilted for Project Linus by our Guild Members so far this year.

Brown Bag Exchange.png

In March, please bring in any grocery bags you may have around the house. We will use them for the exchange in April.
