TRUSTEE CORNER

March marks our “Founders Month” in our Concord Bicentennial year. We hope you can join us at the Founder’s Day Celebration on Tuesday, March 8th. We are hoping the snow is just about finished this season so we can enjoy all of these great events in some nice spring weather. We would like to thank the Service Dept. for a job well done keeping the roads clear and checking the draining all around the township during the rain and snow events last month. Thank you to our residents for their patience during these big events.

We were glad our Trustees, Fiscal Officer, Administrator and Service Director were able to attend the The 2022 OTA Winter Conference in Columbus in-person this year despite these weather events. The Trustees also attended the legislative reception at the State House and met with State Rep. Callender and Speaker of the House Cupp to discuss some of the issues relevant to Concord Township. They are also finishing classes for the Leadership Academy certification. The purpose of the Academy is to enhance the leadership and decision-making skills of the township leadership team through participation in Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy workshops. Trustee Lucci commented, â€śIt was great to speak with the other townships and share ideas. I feel very confident that Concord Township is in a good place. We have a great board, administration and township officials."

We hope you have a very happy spring! Remember to turn your clocks ahead March 13th!

SERVICE DEPARTMENT

The Service Department has had a busy winter season battling the snow and ice conditions all winter. As spring approaches, our crews are out preparing for the upcoming construction season. We are evaluating roads for future repairs and readying equipment

The 2022 Road Resurfacing projects have been approved and are in the scheduling phase. Stonewyke Dr, Nature View Ct, Brian Dr, and David Dr will be resurfaced with asphalt. Additional roads are; Breezewood Dr, Conely Dr, Ridgewater Dr, and Clear Lake Dr. These roads will be milled and then an asphalt base layer with chip and seal surface course. The Service Department will also be performing concrete slab replacement on our concrete roadways throughout the Township.

The Service Department is looking forward to the spring weather and starting the 2022 construction season. We remind our residents with questions and concerns to contact us at 440-350-3225 or by email at concordtwp.com under Service Department. We wish all residents a safe, healthy and fast end to the winter season.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

2022.March.St.Patricks.jpg

After the Great Potato Famine of the 1840’s, Irish immigrants flooded into the United States. Discrimination against the Irish at that time made it hard for immigrants to find work. Factories and shopkeepers posted signs reading “NINA” or “No Irish Need Apply”. Irish immigrants were forced into low paying and extremely dangerous occupations, such as firefighting. On-duty deaths were commonplace for firefighters at the time and with the large percentage of Irish in the fire service, the Irish tradition of playing bagpipes for funerals was heard far too often.

As we approach St. Patrick’s Day, traditional bagpipes may be heard in local parades. We are proud of our firefighting heritage, wish you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and hope you are able to catch a bagpipe melody. Most of all, if you partake in the Irish tradition of tipping a pint, please drive safely.

TOWNSHIP CEMETERY

Cemetery Clean-up

Please understand that if you are placing sentimental items on the graves, they may get lost, stolen or damaged; if it’s something that’s near and dear to your heart, we do not recommend that it be placed in the cemetery.

A gravesite clean-up is scheduled for April 1st. Please allow two (2) weeks to be sure removal has been completed before placing new decorations on your gravesite, this will protect your new decorations from being accidentally removed; items in an urn or on a monument will not be removed unless items pertain to a past holiday or they are unkempt; please contact the cemetery office if honoring a loved one seven (7) days prior the removal times listed above.

Due to the Easter Holiday falling on April 17th, Easter decorations can be placed beginning April 8th and will be removed on or after April 29th.

Cemetery Rules and Regulations

Cemetery Rules are currently being updated and will be available sometime in May. Please check our website or contact the cemetery office for more information.

Cemetery Decorations Rules

  • Live cut flowers are allowed year round with restriction, placed directly in front of or in an “inground” container (no vases of any type are allowed for cut flowers)
  • One (1) live decoration per occupied gravesite (pot/basket/urn) - April 15th-Oct 31st
  • One (1) non-floral, stand-alone decoration (such as statutes, pinwheels, trinkets, garden/stepping stones, holiday place cards) is permitted in urns, pots or flower holders placed alongside the monument, on the foundation extension, as long as it does not impede the maintenance of grounds.

Decoration Placement

  • Any decorations to be placed must be placed at the side or front of the headstone or at the head of the grave if no headstone exists
  • One (1) steel rod hanger (shepherd’s hook) is permitted per monument; hangers shall be placed flush at the side of the monument; all hangers should have a visible decoration on the hook at all times for the safety of those walking by the hanger

More Information

For more specific details, the Rules and Regulations are available at the entrance of the cemetery, online, and in our Town Hall. Call Karen Warner in the Cemetery Office at 440-354-7518 for any questions. All persons are subject to the rules and regulations.
