Anna, an orphan living in the walls of Constantinople, reads the story of Aethon to her dying sister, while Omeir, a village boy, is conscripted into an army that would lay siege on the city. 500 years later, Zeno, a prisoner of war, rehearses a play depicting the story of Aethon, unaware that a troubled teenager has placed a bomb in the building.
