As cohousers, we know that living in community is about much more than just sharing resources and living spaces. It's about building relationships and creating a sense of belonging that extends beyond our own homes.
Cohousing is more than just a way of living; it's a philosophy, a way of being in the world. It's about community, cooperation, and shared responsibility. It's about creating a better world, one neighborhood at a time.
At CohoUS, we are building more than just communities – we’re building a movement. And being part of a movement isn't just about feeling good or being part of something bigger than ourselves. It's about taking action and making a difference. Here are three ways that you can get involved this month, and support the cohousing movement:
1) Host (and attend!) an open house event: Invite your friends, family, and neighbors to experience the power of cohousing. Show them how it's possible to live in a way that's more connected, sustainable, and fulfilling. You never know - you might just inspire someone to start their own cohousing community!
2) Join the CohoUS Marketing Committee: If you're passionate about cohousing and want to help spread the word, consider joining our marketing committee. You'll have the chance to work with other cohousers from around the country, developing and implementing strategies to promote cohousing and grow the movement.
3) Share your stories and photos: Your experiences and insights are a vital part of the cohousing movement. By sharing your stories and photos, you can help others understand what cohousing is all about and why it matters.
We're so glad that you're part of this community of communities. Your commitment, passion, and energy are what make this movement so powerful. Let's continue to work together to build a world that is more connected, sustainable, and equitable. Together, we can create a world where cohousing is the norm, not the exception.

National Cohousing Open House Weekend
May 6-7, 2023
On May 6-7, 2023, cohousing communities across the country will open their doors to neighbors and friends from their surrounding communities. National Open House Weekend is our chance to share the story of cohousing - who we are, how we live, and why we love this way of life. There are two ways to engage with this weekend:
1) Host a gathering of your own. Events can be virtual or in-person, and we welcome participation from existing, forming and regional groups. Submit your event here.
2) Attend an Open House in your area, or virtual event anywhere! Our list of events will be updated regularly, so check back often to see what’s happening.

Study Refutes Aging Stereotypes
What was your view of “senior citizens” when you were a youthful 20- or 30-something? Perhaps you pictured gray-haired, stooped elders walking with a cane, playing bingo in a retirement home, their calendars full of medical appointments. People whom life had passed by, who were simply marking time until the end. A recent study by AARP and National Geographic largely debunked that stereotype.
