The 2023 theme is Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories because "women have long been instrumental in passing on our heritage in word and in print to communicate the lessons of those who came before us. Women’s stories, and the larger human story, expand our understanding and strengthen our connections with each other."
Our San Francisco ECE community is predominantly women and most especially women of color and immigrants. ECESF is proud to bring together a diverse network of leaders, including early care educators, pedagogues, and administrators across programs to reflect, prioritize, and speak to our needs. That’s why ECESF holds community gatherings to offer spaces for educators to get to know each other and build our collective power as Early Care Educators of San Francisco. Creating Equitable Early Learning Environments for Young Boys of Color
Creating Equitable Early Learning Environments for Young Boys of Color provides an honest and comprehensive look at the inequitable experiences our youngest Boys of Color have in early learning programs including disproportionate rates of exclusionary discipline. This book highlights the critical need to disrupt these patterns and create strength-based and equity-oriented early childhood environments that support Boys of Color to thrive. This groundbreaking resource draws on the most contemporary research for early childhood educators committed to improving race equity within their classrooms and programs. A wide range of practical strategies provide educators with actions they can take right away to create strengths-based, responsive early education environments that support our youngest Boys of Color to thrive. Key topics include building racial equity awareness, strategies to address implicit bias, responsive relationships with love at the center, culturally responsive practice, and the importance of building reciprocal partnerships with families.
This publication was written primarily for early childhood teachers and providers and program and school leaders. However, the information is also relevant for infrastructure staff, professional development and coaching professionals, child advocates, and college instructors.

The EcoCenter offers free loans for binoculars, bird guidebooks, and fishing rods. We simply ask that you leave an ID or item of similar nature as collateral. Equipment is loaned out on a first come, first served basis Tuesday - Saturday.

A Message From Children's Council:
In January, Governor Newsom proposed his initial plans for the State's 2023-2024 budget. Unfortunately, critical exemptions and waivers in previous budget agreements have been left out of this proposed budget. These waivers are set to expire at the end of July and their exclusion will put families and child care providers in San Francisco and across the state at risk.
In May, the Governor, with consultation from our State Representatives, will introduce revised budget plans. That means we need to let our Representatives in the legislature know now the revised budget needs to support Early Care & Education.

Virtual Input Sessions on Regulations for the Enrollment Set Aside for Children with Disabilities and Waiver Process in the California State Preschool Program
Attention: All Executive Directors, Program Directors, and other interested parties
There will be two virtual input sessions. Participants may attend only one input session.
Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
This is not an informational webinar; it is an opportunity for the public to actively participate in providing input on the topics below.
The purpose of the sessions is to gather information from interest holders that will inform the drafting of regulations regarding the requirements outlined in Education Code (EC) sections 8208(c)(1), (c)(2), (d)(2)(A), and (d)(2)(B) concerning: Meeting the requirement to set aside a percentage of funded enrollment for children with disabilities. The waiver process for contractors that are not meeting the set aside.
To register you must complete the following steps:
1. Email [email protected] with your name, your agency name, and the dates you are available to attend. These input sessions will have a limited capacity and participants will be chosen to attend on a first-come-first-serve basis.
2. You will receive a response email with a link to register for one of the input sessions – please be sure to register once you receive the link, you will not be automatically registered.

Reset and Renew: What Aligned Campaigns Learned from Setbacks” Webinar Highlights and Recording
On February 16, advocate leaders from aligned movements came together to share their reflections and insights for recovering and persisting in the wake of political and legislative setbacks. The conversation was refreshingly encouraging and centered on themes of the dynamic nature of political change, the critical catalyst of power building and diversifying our coalitions, and committing to our due diligence in anticipating the opposition.

Learning Bridge Preschool Community is advocating for their teacher and her family who were impacted by the explosion in the SF Sunset area. Her family's home was destroyed while they were away at work and school. The parents/families at Learning Bridge have put together this way to help the family. General Child Care and Development (CCTR) Fiscal Year (FY) 2022–23
Request for Funding Applications
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Child Care and Development Division (CCDD) announces the availability of a second round of CCTR program funds to provide direct services for eligible children as defined in California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 10213.5(i). Funds are available for both Local Educational Agency (LEA) and non-LEA applicants to provide full-day/full-year services on or after April 1, 2023.
Please refer to the information within the CCTR FY 2022–23 Web page for additional information on how to apply. Applications for this second opportunity must be received 11:59 pm on March 30, 2023!

2022–23 Universal PreKindergarten Planning & Implementation Grant and Countywide Planning and Capacity Building Grant Allocations
The California Department of Education (CDE) announced that the 2022–23 Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) Planning & Implementation (P&I) Grant funds and the Countywide Planning and Capacity Building Grant funds have been allocated. Pursuant to Education Code (EC) 8281.5(d), the sum of three hundred million dollars ($300,000,000) has been allocated to local educational agencies (LEAs) and county offices of education (COEs) for the UPK P&I Grant Program. These funds shall be expended by June 30, 2026.
Grant funds may be used for costs associated with creating or expanding California State Preschool Programs (CSPPs) or transitional kindergarten (TK) programs, or to establish or strengthen partnerships with other providers of pre-k education within the LEA, including Head Start programs, to ensure that high-quality options for pre-k are available for children 4 years old.
