In April 2022 over 2,250 Tennesseans from Memphis to Knoxville planted over 10,000 trees in their yard and in their community. These trees are already working to improve our air, water, and land, and they are making Tennessee more beautiful

The trees offered at the event were bare-root seedlings. Green Interchange offered a variety of native trees with a small per/tree donation. Participants picked up their trees from one of 21 pickup sites, each run by a team of volunteers who committed their time, talent, and passion to help participants.

This is the second year of the program and to date Green Interchange has helped over 4,000 people plant more than 17,500 trees in their yards.

If you wanted to give trees away to your employees on or about Earth Day, please contact John McFadden at (615) 330-5364 or at [email protected].

Open Discussions

Upcoming April 10, 2023 @1:00 P.M. CST

TDEC's Office of Sustainable Practices continue to host open discussions quarterly throughout the year. Over 20 TGSP members participated on our most recent call, with discussion ranging from difficult to manage materials and waste to potential solutions to problems at facilities. Members were able to share successes and vendor information to aid other members.

During this open discussion members will have the opportunity to talk to other industry members about pollution prevention strategies, recycling, resource reuse, vendors, and any other items relating to facility environment, health, sustainability, or operations. Members will receive a reoccurring quarterly calendar appointment.

Join us if you can and meet other TGSP members. You never know if a solution to an issue you are having is discussed.

If you need the calendar appointment re-sent, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Net Zero Energy Use & Energy Resilience

By: Electrical Safety Foundation International

Net zero buildings produce the same amount of energy as they use.

Energy Independence

  • Solar panels can create energy and store them in energy storage systems for later use
  • When solar panels are paired with energy storage systems, you can become independent of the energy grid
  • Energy storage systems provide power during power outages

Become Energy Efficient

  • Install solar panels for renewable energy sources
  • Solar water heaters and efficient water management systems can help reduce energy cost
  • Smart devices monitor energy use and reduce energy waste
  • High-performance windows, doors, insulation, and air sealing provide better weatherization, ventilation, comfort, and energy efficiency
  • Cut energy use with energy-efficient LED lighting and energy star appliances

Energy Resilience

  • Proper yearly maintenance ensures HVAC systems operate safely and efficiently
  • Surge protective devices help protect large appliances and systems against voltage surges that may occur during power shut-offs and restarts
  • Solar panels paired with energy storage systems will automatically provide power to essential devices in your home or business during power outages

Net zero energy use, energy efficiency, and energy resiliency help reduce your environmental impact, reduce carbon emissions, and provide domestically produced energy.

Whether you are looking for a short nature trail or an adventurous, all-day endeavor through a park's most remote stretches, you'll find what you're looking for at a Tennessee State Park.

All hikes will be guided by park staff who can speak to the natural, cultural, and historical treasures that Tennessee State Parks has to offer.
