Are You Called to Serve? Nominations Due April 15th

The Joint Standing Committee on Nominations is inviting nominations for various churchwide roles for elections taking place at GC81. These leadership bodies continue the work of the church between General Conventions and applicants need not be deputies to General Convention, only members in good standing of The Episcopal Church.

You are encouraged to look through the job descriptions and consider whether you or someone you know might have the gifts and skills needed to serve in this way. Job descriptions (including time and travel commitments), as well as applications in English, Spanish, and French, are available on the General Convention Website

Sign Up to Testify or Observe Joint Budget Committee Session

The Committee is inviting participation from the wider church in the budgeting process by providing ideas, feedback, and comments. Recently, an email was sent with a survey asking for your input, as well as a link to sign up for the follow up Zoom session on April 17 from 4-5:30 PM EDT.

More information, as well as the questions framing this important work, can be found here.

Welcome to the GCO, Brittney Laws!

Last week we welcomed Brittney Laws to the team as our new Meeting Coordinator. She will provide meeting support for all the Interim Bodies of the General Convention and other meetings.

Brittney studied Public Relations at Florida A&M University, an HBCU, before working in education for five years in Orlando and Chicago. She moved to NYC seven years ago and began working in non-profit events and meetings.

Brittney is a lifelong African Methodist and her father is a Presiding Elder in the church. Outside of work she enjoys cooking, live music, podcasts, and exploring the city.

Welcome, Brittney!

Share Your Stories of Ministry - FACT 2023 Survey

If you haven't done so already, staff or parish leadership are invited to participate in a multi-faith survey of congregational life in America. It is being conducted in partnership with the Exploring the Pandemic Impact on Congregations study, which is actively researching change and innovation in the American religious landscape as a result of COVID-19. Learn more about this study at: covidreligionresearch.org.

The survey can be completed by staff or parish leadership, and it is available here. Aggregate results will be shared online at faithcommunitiestoday.org in the coming months. If you have questions regarding this survey, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for your participation in this important national study, and blessings on your ministry!

A Successful Meeting in Cleveland

Several more Interim Bodies held their first in-person meetings this past week in Cleveland, OH to begin their work in earnest. The groups had a chance to worship, eat, and of course, meet together in their committees. Along with the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music and the Standing Commission on Structure, Governance, Constitution and Canons, the following Interim Bodies met:

  • Task Force on LGBTQ+ Inclusion
  • Task Force on Individuals with Mental Illness
  • Task Force on Indigenous Liturgy
  • Interim Body to Oversee Anti-Harassment Best Practices, Model Policy Best Practices, and Varied Training Materials
  • Executive Council Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility

To learn more about the Interim Bodies, including their rosters and mandates, visit the Governance section from the GCO website and select Interim Bodies, where you will be linked to the Interim Bodies page of the extranet.
