Interview with Steve Ramsey, Chief Lighting Tech

Steve Ramsey

Steve Ramsey is a Brooklyn, New York-based Chief Lighting Technician with 26 years of experience and credits on such notable films as West Side Story (2021), Joker (2019), Bridge of Spies (2015), and Winter's Tale (2014), and soon to be released Netflix film Leave the World Behind. We spoke to Steve to find out more about his life as a gaffer for film and television series, what inspires him, and his interest in technologies, including discovering the 900MHz band with Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM during the pandemic. "I became a union member and finally got a chance to work for many established industry gaffers from whom to learn. As I became more experienced, so did some of my cinematographer peers from the independent film projects. These two worlds eventually merged, and I found myself in the fortunate position of being a young gaffer being hired on studio feature films by up-and-coming cinematographers."
