Welcome to March! We are pleased to share this month's class lineup, and several exciting events that will be free for the community. Kevin Hines, a mental health advocate, will be in Arlington on March 22nd to give a community presentation on hope and resiliency. At this event, there will be a number of local organizations that will have tables set up with resources and information for families and community members.
This month also marks the start of our free car seat check services that will be offered at Stilly Valley Health Connections. At our kickoff event on March 15th, you can have your car seat or booster seat checked by a Certified Car Seat Technician.
On March 16th, our monthly cooking and nutrition class will start exploring the Blue Zones, by focusing on the cuisine of Nicoya, Costa Rica. We have a variety of other classes on health and wellness and mental health being offered throughout the month. We hope that you take the time to look through our lineup and see all that we have to offer!

Kevin Hines is a storyteller. He is a bestselling author, global public speaker, and award-winning documentary filmmaker. In the year 2000, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. The fall would break his body, but not his spirit.
Today, Kevin dedicates his life to saving lives by spreading the message of hope, healing, and recovery. He teaches people of all ages the art of wellness and the ability to survive pain with true resilience. He is one of the most respected and admired voices of lived experience. Kevin’s story is a remarkable testament to the strength of the human spirit and a reminder for us to love the life we have.

Free Car Seat Check Event

Come and Get Your Car Seat Checked by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician | |
We are excited to announce that Safe Kids Snohomish County, South County Fire, Skagit Regional Health, and Stilly Valley Health Connections are working together to provide free car and booster seat safety checks to North Snohomish County residents.
Our first event will be offered by appointment only on March 15th between 1 pm and 3 pm at Stilly Valley Health Connections in Arlington. If you are interested in signing up to have your car seat or booster seat checked by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician at this event, or to be notified of available dates in the future, please contact Stilly Valley Health Connections at 360-386-9918 or email info@stillyvalleyhealth.org.

Narcan Training (IN-PERSON) | |
Please join Amy Wheat, Opioid Outreach Specialist with Snohomish County Human Services, to learn how to administer Narcan (Naloxone), a nasal spray that can block the effects of an opioid overdose. This training will include information about what an opioid overdose looks like, why the addition of Fentanyl increases the danger of a deadly overdose, and how to use the antidote to reverse an opioid overdose. The training is free and open to anyone in the community. A limited number of Naloxone kits will be available for attendees.

So, you’ve finally got into a routine of grocery shopping and preparing meals at home. You feel good about making healthy choices. Inevitably, that moment comes where you get to pack your bags and hit the road. You’re traveling! Travel is exciting but can leave us feeling anxious when it comes to eating healthy. In this session, we will review several healthy eating travel tips, including smart snacks, nutritious pit stops, and mindfulness. Class will be led by Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Taelin Flores, and is cosponsored by Verdant Health Commission. Recipes or handouts will be shared with participants.

The Washington Poison Center has tracked adolescent intentional exposures for over a decade. Throughout the years, we've seen increases in several concerning areas, such as with intentional self-harm and substance use. Now, there are additional concerns about the pandemic's impacts on adolescent mental health. Join the Poison Center for a discussion of these trends, the facts behind adolescent substance use, and key strategies to prevent and reduce harm among the youth in your lives. This class is free and open to anyone in the community.

Navigating Anxiety & Depression with Kids (ONLINE) | |
The number of children and teens experiencing anxiety and depression is growing, which is a troubling trend for both parents and educators. In this workshop, learn what common indicators to look for, some ways to help manage these challenges, and how to talk with children about this subject matter.
Class will be led by Camille Hereth from Women and Family Wellness Studios. This workshop is free and open to anyone in the community. If you cannot attend and want to view a recording of the presentation, please register and a link will be emailed to you.

QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training

QPR Gatekeeper Training is a 90-minute educational program designed to teach “gatekeepers", those who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide (i.e. parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, emergency personnel) the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. This class is free and open to anyone in the community.
