Get Ready for 2024 Museum Workers Advocacy Day!


The National EMP Network invites museum workers of all specialties and levels of experience, as well as those who support museum workers to participate in advocating for themselves and the industry through equitable changes like salary transparency and the adoption of living wages. 2024 Ethical Interpretation Workshop Application Opens


The application process for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture's 2024 Ethical Interpretation Workshop is open!


Offered annually, this workshop provides technical training for museum professionals on interpretive theory and ethical practice. Participants are equipped with tools and techniques to develop culturally responsive interpretation, and how to prepare themselves to engage in challenging discussions in a safe and sustainable way. Appropriate use of language and cultural frameworks, awareness of identity and self, and addressing audience responses are just some of the topics covered.


Workshop is open to museum professionals in the US & the Caribbean engaged in historical and cultural interpretation or a closely related field.


Virtual Sessions: Mon, June 10-Thurs, June 13, 2024 (10 am to 3:30 pm EST daily)

In-Person Sessions: Mon, June 17-Thurs, June 20, 2024 (9 am to 5 pm EST daily)


The workshop will be held over the course of a two-week period. Participants should anticipate arriving in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, June 16, and departing the evening of Thursday, June 20, or on Friday, June 21.
