Join Cycle the Hudson Valley from August 4 - 11th, 2024


Register now for the second annual Cycle the Hudson Valley bicycle tour, highlighting the iconic Hudson Valley's communities, culture, history, and scenic landscape.


Cycle the Hudson Valley is a fully-supported eight-day, 200-mile tour hosted by Parks & Trails New York from the Albany area, following the Hudson River section of the Empire State Trail, now the longest multi-use trail in the nation, to the Rockland County area. New this year is a three-day weekend option including a route into New York City and a beach party in Harriman State Park.


The tour begins in Troy, with its revitalized downtown full of restaurants, coffee bars and shops, and finishes in Rockland County. Riders have an opportunity to ride into NYC on day seven. Register Now,

Governor Hochul Awards $1.8 Million in Grants for 26 Projects in Hudson River Communities


Governor Kathy Hochul has announced grant awards totaling more than $1.8 million for 26 projects that will help communities along the Hudson River Estuary improve water quality, enhance environmental education, and advance stewardship of habitat and natural resources. The grants complement the Governor's comprehensive plan to protect communities from the impacts of climate change by investing in resilience.



Now in its 21st year, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Hudson River Estuary Grants Program implements priorities outlined in the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda 2021-2025. To date, DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program awarded 643 grants totaling more than $28 million. Funding for DEC’s Estuary Grants program is provided by New York State’s Environmental Protection Fund, a critical resource for environmental programs such as land acquisition, farmland protection, invasive species prevention and eradication, recreation access, water quality improvement, and environmental justice projects. The Wallkill Valley Land Trust seeks volunteer leaders to join and contribute to several vital committees, including education, development, and finance. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the WVLT and directly contribute to its mission. The WVLT protects open spaces, trails, and farms in the Wallkill Valley while supporting the development of a strong, thriving community. WVLT owns and manages trails and open spaces, such as the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and Joppenbergh Mountain.

Event Registration is Now Open for Canal Clean Sweep 2024


The New York State Canal Corporation and Parks & Trails New York have announced that Canal Clean Sweep will be returning for the 19th consecutive year on the weekend of April 19-21, 2024! Groups are now able to register a clean-up to participate in this year's Canal Clean Sweep. Register here.


Canal Clean Sweep is an annual statewide clean-up event that occurs along major greenways across New York State to celebrate Earth Day. Clean-ups primarily occur along the Erie and Champlain Canalways, the Glens Falls Feeder Canal, the Black River Feeder Canal, and the Rochester Riverway. Learn more.

Hudson River Valley Greenway's Grant Applications Are Now Hosted on the Greenway's Online Grants Platform


Grant and sponsorship applications for all Hudson River Valley Greenway and Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage programs, including Community/Compact Planning, Conservancy Trail, and Heritage Sponsorships are now on an online grants platform, HRVG Grants Platform This is the only way to apply for our grants. A link to the virtual application process and detailed guidance may be found on our website.


All funding applications are required to submit grant applications on the online platform to apply for funding for all grant rounds. Applicants must register on the HRVG Grant Platform using their email address. Older applications will not be accepted.

Hudson River Foundation Request for Proposals


The Hudson River Foundation has announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) to implement a three-year (2024-2026) monitoring survey of the Hudson River’s lower food web. The 2024-2026 monitoring program includes two primary fisheries surveys, funded separately by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC): the DEC Beach Seine Survey and the DEC contracted Fall Juvenile Survey. This RFP is to conduct a third: the Interim Lower Food Web survey.


Together, these surveys and additional data collection, data analysis, and exploration of new monitoring techniques, will be used to develop the “Next Generation” Hudson River Ecosystem Monitoring Program to be implemented in 2027.


The proposal due date for the three-year Interim Lower Food Web Monitoring Survey is March 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm. Heritage Spotlight: Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Dutchess County


The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College develops and presents adventurous performances to audiences from around the world. Designed by Frank Gehry, the Fisher Center is the first of his buildings to be constructed in the Northeast. Gehry makes use of the region’s light in his design by cladding the building in stainless steel that undulates to mimic the Hudson Valley’s rolling landscape. The 107,000-square-foot building features state-of-the-art studios, a 200-seat theater, and an 800-seat concert hall. The Center presents more than 200 events each year. It is known for the Bard Music Festival and for SummerScape, an annual festival of dance, theater, opera, cabaret, and film. Learn more.

Project Spotlight: Town of Gallatin Comprehensive Plan Review


The Town of Gallatin in Columbia County received a Community Planning Grant to complete a thorough review and update of their 2007 Comprehensive Plan. Since the 2007 Comprehensive Plan review, Gallatin and Columbia County have experienced significant changes, such as its demographics, a surge in small niche farms and less large-scale farming, and the arrival of Broadband driven by the demand for telecommuting and home-based businesses. To keep up with the changing community, the new plan recognizes these challenges and provides a road map for helping the municipality make well-thought-out decisions for future growth. It considers multiple planning areas including land use, transportation, the environment, recreation, open space, infrastructure, historic resources, housing, and details other topics of importance to Gallatin today. Greenway Conservancy Trail Grant Program

National Heritage Area Sponsorships Available

The Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area (HRVNHA) will partner with various organizations to sponsor programs and events that reinforce the Heritage Area’s mission. While complimenting the mission of the Heritage Area, cultural, heritage, and recreational events deliver significant tourism and economic benefits to communities, and encourage local and regional partnerships. Municipalities and nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations located within the HRVNHA are eligible to apply. Applications are available on HRVG's Online Grants Platform. 2024 Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Technical Assistance Opportunity

NPS-RTCA assists communities and public land managers in evolving climate resiliency strategies, developing or restoring parks, conservation areas, rivers, and wildlife habitats, as well as creating recreation opportunities and programs that engage future generations in the outdoors. Deadline: March 1, 2024. Veterans and Nature: Enhancing Well-being Through Outdoor Experiences Grant Program

The goal of this grant is to increase the engagement of veterans’ communities in understanding the physical and mental health benefits of time in nature and provide opportunities for physical and mental health-focused outdoor activities at US Forest Service sites and other public lands (including state and local sites). 2024 Tibor T. Polgar Undergraduate Fellowship

The Tibor T. Polgar Undergraduate Fellowship program is a student research program of the Hudson River Foundation (HRF) conducted in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Named in honor of Dr. Tibor T. Polgar, a major participant in the early planning and development of the Foundation, the program provides a summer grant ($5,500 for each fellowship) and research funds (up to $1,500) for up to eight undergraduate students to conduct research on the Hudson River, under the guidance of a faculty mentor (mentors to receive a $1,000 honorarium). Deadline: March 4, 2024. DHPSNY Planning & Assessment Services

Planning & Assessment services pair accepted organizations with DHPSNY staff to discuss current practices and set recommendations and goals specific to your capacity and needs. Final reports can be utilized to obtain funding, increase the accessibility and use of your collections, and more. Deadline: March 8, 2024. More details.


NYS ConnectALL Broadband - Municipal Infrastructure Program 

The Municipal Infrastructure Program will prioritize new public broadband infrastructure that will be made available on an open-access, non-discriminatory basis to private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to provide New Yorkers with high-quality, reliable, and affordable service options. Grants will be provided to municipalities, non-profits, and other entities to construct open and accessible public broadband infrastructure. Phase 1 (March 8 deadline) and Phase 2 (April 19 deadline) are only open to Eligible Public Applicants. Northern Border Regional Commission Grant Program 

The Catalyst Program is designed to stimulate economic growth and inspire partnerships that improve rural economic vitality across the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) four-state region. The Catalyst Program supports a broad range of economic development initiatives that will: modernize and expand water and wastewater systems; revitalize transportation infrastructure; establish workforce development programs and facilities; grow outdoor recreation infrastructure and economies; and construct new childcare and healthcare facilities. Only available in Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Washington County. There are two funding rounds in 2024, with pre-application deadlines on March 15 and September 6, and full application deadlines on May 3 and October 18More info.


Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants

The Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants Program supports subgrant programs that enable the rehabilitation of historic properties and rehabilitate, protect, and foster economic development of rural communities. This program funds preservation projects for historic sites, including architectural and engineering services and physical building preservation through subgrants to communities determined rural by the US Bureau of the Census. Bridge Investment Program

The Federal Highway Administration is soliciting applications for two funding categories: (1) Planning and (2) Bridge Project grants (a project with total eligible costs not greater than $100 million) for awards under the Bridge Investment Program. Deadline: March 19, 2024. Find out more.


Preserve New York Grants

The New York State Council on the Arts and the Preservation League of NYS grants are available to non-profit groups and municipalities that manage historic sites, museums, arts facilities, and other important institutions that serve an art or cultural purpose and are open to the public. Deadline: March 22, 2024. Basic Preservation Grants

The National Film Preservation Foundation invites applications for the spring round of its Basic Preservation Grants. These grants are awarded to nonprofit and public institutions for laboratory work to preserve culturally and historically significant film materials. The cash award ranges from $1,000 to $20,000. Registration Deadline: March 22, 2024. Application Deadline: April 26, 2024. Learn more.


Rural Capacity Building Program

Eligible national non-profit entities may apply to the RCB program, which enhances the capacity and ability of rural housing development organizations, Community Development Corporations (CDCs), Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs), rural local governments, and Indian tribes (eligible beneficiaries) to carry out affordable housing and community development activities in rural areas for the benefit of low- and moderate-income families and persons. Documentary Heritage Program Grants

Documentary Heritage Program grants are designed to build more comprehensive and equitable documentation of New York State’s history and culture by supporting projects that identify, survey, collect, arrange, describe, and make available records that relate to groups and topics traditionally under-represented in the State. Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, USDOT

The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. Funds for the fiscal year (FY) 2024 SS4A grant program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to support planning, infrastructural, behavioral, and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users, including pedestrians; bicyclists; public transportation, personal conveyance, and micro-mobility users; motorists; and commercial vehicle operators. Read more. Low or No Emission and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Programs

FTA announced the availability of $1.5 billion in FY 2024 funding to support state and local efforts to buy or modernize buses, improve bus facilities, and support workforce development through its Low- or No-Emission Program. The funding opportunity will advance FTA’s priorities of strengthening U.S. bus manufacturing, containing vehicle costs, and accelerating the delivery of new vehicles. Deadline: April 25, 2024. Candevra Foundation Grant Program

The Candreva Environmental Foundation is a New York state-based organization that provides seed money for local environmental education initiatives and projects that engage young people in environmental service. Awards of up to $500 can be used for materials, printing costs, student and teacher travel, communication costs, and other project-related expenses. Grants are limited to Westchester and Putnam Counties. Deadline: June 1, 2024. Find out more.


Water Infrastructure Improvement & Intermunicipal Grants

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation is offering $325 million in grants for clean and drinking water projects to selected municipalities with infrastructure projects that protect public health and/or water quality. EFC and the NYS Department of Health will evaluate all applications for projects received by the due date based on factors including protection of public health and water quality; median household income; population served; governmental and community support; environmental justice considerations; and the readiness of the project to proceed. Inflation Reduction Act Community Change Grants Program

The EPA is accepting applications on a rolling basis for $2 billion in Inflation Reduction Act funding available to support community-driven projects that build capacity for communities to tackle environmental and climate justice challenges, strengthen their climate resilience, and advance clean energy. Applications will be accepted until November 21, 2024. Learn more.


The Peter H. Brink Leadership Fund

The Peter H. Brink Leadership Fund helps to build the capacity of existing preservation organizations and encourages collaboration among these organizations by providing grants for mentoring and other peer-to-peer and direct organizational development and learning opportunities. More info.


Extreme Terrain’s Clean Trail Grant Program

This program will provide eligible groups the opportunity to apply for a grant to fund their next trail improvement-related project, which could range from trail clean-up, trail restoration, trail expansion, to name a few. Learn more.


Veterans Emergency Housing Program

New York State’s Veterans Emergency Housing Program provides short-term

assistance for Veterans who face a current housing hardship and lack sufficient

personal funds to resolve the hardship. Eligible Veterans can receive up to $2,000

per calendar year to assist with qualifying housing needs. More details.
