Literacy Network Monthly E-Newsletter
50th anniversary logo

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2024, we're thrilled to unveil a commemorative logo that reflects our dedication to helping Dane County adults build skills, reach goals, and connect communities through free adult literacy education!

This logo isn't just a special design; it symbolizes the countless goals achieved, the brighter futures unlocked, and the lasting change created over the past five decades. It also includes our updated tagline, "Learning for Life," unanimously picked by student and staff vote to better reflect our commitment to being student centered.

And, the logo is just the beginning of how we plan to honor the many lives impacted and the donors, volunteers, and other supporters who’ve helped to make it possible. Throughout the year, we’ll invite you to celebrate with us in several ways:

  • Keep an eye on your inbox for invitations to our 50th Anniversary Celebration in April (Registration opens next week! Watch for a registration link.), our Party in the Parking Lot in August, and our Growing through Literacy event in September.

  • Enjoy stories from students, volunteers, and donors in our upcoming 50 Faces of Literacy Network campaign by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

  • Continue your financial support through one-time or monthly gifts to help ensure our next 50 years! Donate here.

We can't wait to celebrate with you!

We Need Your Pictures!

Literacy Network's building on E. Wilson St

Recognize this building? Thanks to supporter Stu for sending us this historical shot of Literacy Network's 1985 building on E. Wilson St!

Do you have photos from your time with Literacy Network? Send them our way! We are collecting community members' images from our first 50 years to share at events, in social media, on our website, and more. Maybe you ran in one of the early Canterbury Runs and have a snap of you crossing the finish line. Maybe you captured a shot at one of first Reading Between the Wines events. Maybe you are a past volunteer, donor, or staff member who has a photo of a memorable time with a student. We want to see them all!

Please send photos to margaret@litnetwork.org. Don't have a photo? We'd love memories and stories too. Drop us a line about what Literacy Network has meant to you.

Immediate Need for Tutors!

Carl and Mona

We need you! Students are waiting for tutors THIS semester for our Thursday morning Essential Literacy Tutoring program. Work one on one with adults to help them learn essential skills in reading, writing, math, and more.

What do tutoring pairs say about their experience? Current pair Carl and Mona (pictured) share:

  • "What I like about my tutor is that she is motivational and inspirational. It is always important to have that support system. To have someone who wants to see you succeed and go through the process." - Carl

  • "When a person is able to work on getting to whatever that next goal is, it enriches those who are in the process as well as those who are impacted by the goal." - Mona

No experience necessary; all training provided! Learn more and apply.

Welcome, Laura and Caitlin!

We are excited to add two new members to our team! Meet Laura Hametta and Caitlin Pueschner:

Laura

Laura is our new Essential Literacy Tutoring Program Manager! Her role includes lesson planning, student intake and placement, and tutor training and support for the Essential Literacy Tutoring Program.

Laura's favorite part of working at Literacy Network is, "seeing students meet both their short-term and long-term goals! Seeing students gain more confidence and independence in many aspects of their lives and having even a small part in that journey."

Caitlin

Caitlin started at Literacy Network as a part-time English instructor in 2021 and now joins the team as the full-time Workplace English Instructor and Program Manager!

Caitlin provides instruction and partnership coordination for our workplace literacy program. Caitlin shares, "There's nothing better than watching students' confidence develop in the classroom as they discover new ways to express themselves in English."
