March 2024 Newsletter

Dear John,

March and April are two months with many religious holidays. INPEA is blessed to represent schools of many different faith traditions. The blessing of an organization like INPEA is the diversity of schools that it brings around the same table. While we may come from different faith traditions or even different educational philosophies, we find common ground around that table. One of our mantras is “Unity in Diversity.” At a time when our country craves unity, leave it to educators to lead the way. Do we always agree? Of course not, but we are able to discuss our differences with insight and civility. Educators never lose track of our mission, our purpose...to do our best so that our students are their best. During these various holy days, let us be thankful for our spirit of cooperation and for our ability to see the greater good! God bless!

The INPEA Team,

John, Chris, Andrea, and Beatrice

IDOE Updates

ILEARN Q & A Sessions

IDOE will hold two Q & A sessions in April to address any questions regarding the upcoming ILEARN 3-8, ILEARN Biology End-of-Course Assessment (ECA), and optional ILEARN U.S. Government ECA testing windows.

Additional resources and webinars can be found on IDOE’s ILEARN webpage. Contact IDOE’s Office of Student Assessment with questions.

Indiana High School Diplomas

On Wednesday, IDOE initiated rulemaking on Indiana’s new diploma by presenting their initial draft to the State Board of Education. The legislature charged the Department with developing a new diploma structure. The intent is to move from four diplomas to two, with additional flexibility regarding “seat time” to allow for work based learning opportunities. The Indiana GPS Diploma will be similar to the Core 40 but with more flexibility. The Indiana GPS Diploma Plus intends for students to earn a diploma plus additional credentials to provide more currency for a student whether they will be attending college, joining the workforce, or entering the military. The PowerPoint that Dr. Jenner used for the presentation can be found at https://www.in.gov/sboe/files/3.27.24-SBOE-meeting_HS-Diploma-Redesign.pptx.pdf .

Please note that the Board just initiated the rule-making process which will include multiple opportunities for public comment. We would encourage high school leaders and guidance counselors to share their feedback and comments. The new diploma will be in effect for the 2029 graduation cohort. The public may provide immediate feedback at any time via this Jotform, which asks for additional solution-ideas, as well as tools and resources that would be most helpful in supporting implementation.

LVIS360 Licensing Update

Educators applying for initial licenses or renewals in the next few months should log in to the updated LVIS360 system soon to link their LVIS legacy licensure data to their LVIS360 account. The new system requires users to create an Access Indiana account prior to accessing LVIS360. The Office of Educator Licensing recommends getting acquainted with the new login process and linking your new LVIS360 login to your legacy account now before the busy season for licensing starts in May. Administrators, please encourage your teachers to log in soon. Access the user portal here. Contact IDOE's Office of Educator Licensing with any questions.

2024-2025 Reading Plan and Dyslexia Reporting

Indiana Administrative Code requires all public schools and state-accredited non-public schools with students enrolled in kindergarten through grade three to complete and submit an elementary reading plan to IDOE by close of business on Sunday, June 30. Accredited non-public schools are not required to submit dyslexia screening data from the 2023-2024 school year, but have the option to report. The submission window opens on Friday, April 5. Contact IDOE’s Literacy Center with additional questions.

TitleCon 2024: The Student Behind the Funding

IDOE’s TitleCon 2024 will bring together hundreds of Indiana educators including superintendents, principals, program administrators, teachers, and fiscal representatives from local education agencies (LEA), charter schools, and non-public schools across the state. This two-day conference will feature keynote speakers and several breakout sessions designed to provide Indiana schools with programmatic and fiscal guidance to advance federal education programs in their respective communities in order to best serve Indiana students. Two of our own INPEA member school leaders will be on a panel Wednesday afternoon to discuss equitable share, LEA partnership, third-party service providers, and anything else you want to ask them.

TitleCon 2024 will be held Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, at the Embassy Suites in Plainfield. Sessions schedule can be found in the Yapp app with event code TC2024. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. For more information and to register, visit https://titlecon.ticketleap.com/2024/
