*** Inclement Weather Policy ***
If schools are cancelled due to weather, 4-H events and activities are cancelled
as well. We will make the call before noon that day if county-wide or district-wide
meetings are cancelled. 4-H Families will be notified about cancellations via email
through our 4H Online system and a post on Facebook if we need to cancel
meetings or activities at the county level.

Linn County 4-H Council's next meeting is March 27, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting is held in the 4-H building at the Linn County Fairgrounds.
Miami County 4-H Council's next meeting is April 08, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. The meeting is held at the Paola Extension Office.
Note: MICO 4-H Council is being
held in April instead of March.

Walk Kansas
Program Dates – March 31 – May 25
Registration – March 4- April 1
starting March 4.
Walk Kansas is a K-State Research and Extension (KSRE) health initiative that promotes personal health and well-being by helping participants adopt healthful lifestyle habits. It is primarily a team-based program that will help you:
· be more active with support from friends & family
· make healthier nutrition and beverage choices
· learn helpful techniques to reduce stress
Sign up individually or as a team. Teams can be family, coworkers, friends, community organization members, neighbors, or part of a faith-based community:
· Groups of six form a team
· One serving as the captain
· Team members do not have to live in the same town, county, state or country.
Each year brings a renewed focus on helping participants meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables they eat. Walk Kansas registration is $10 per person and includes: a weekly newsletter, access to the online system to track physical activity, etc., and local Walk Kansas activities.

Cloverbud/Sunshine Makers meetings for March
Cloverbud meetings will now be offered
in both Linn & Miami County locations.
Both meetings will cover the same topics,
so there is no need to attend both and you
may attend a meeting in either county.
Our Topic for this month is "Geology"!
LNCO Cloverbud Meeting is March 7, 5:30 p.m. at the Linn County 4-H Building.
MICO Cloverbud Meeting is March 6, 5:30 p.m. at the Paola Extension Office.

To be eligible to show at the county fair you must have your animal tagged by March 19
at 7pm. You are also required to attend or
complete the online YQCA Training.

YQCA Training
Linn & Miami County Fairs require that all exhibitors in market and breeding livestock (Beef, Sheep, Meat Goat, and Swine)
complete YQCA Training each year.
register for one of the following in-person trainings or take the online training.
Paola: March 12 @ 10:00am or 2:00pm;
April 17 @ 6:30pm
May 29 @ 6:30pm
All will be held at the Paola Office
Mound City: March 27 at 6:30pm;
June 11@ 2:30pm in
Linn County 4-H Building
All YQCA trainings must be completed by June 15 to show at either fair.

Entomology Project Meeting
Saturday, March 16th at the Allen County Extension Office. We will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Bring your pinning supplies and insects to pin. Make sure to put insects in your relaxing chamber for 24 hours before the meeting.
We will continue to work on the service project we started in February. If you have not started on this, you will have time to catch up in March - please bring 75 cents for the supplies.
If you have not gotten the template for making the labels to go under each insect in your collection, please bring a zip drive so we can get that for you.

4-H Entrepreneurs Program
Turn your 4-H project into a small business and earn a little extra money. As part of this program, you will learn about building a business and be eligible to participate for free at our 4-H Markets in Paola & Mound City next fall.
You can base your business off of anything you would like although we are not allowing live animals at our Markets.
The first session on March 20th will help you come up with an idea if you don’t already have one and lead you through the process.
There are a limited number of spots available so don't delay to register.

New Miami County Fair Show Schedule Announced for the 2024 Miami County Fair!
The Miami County Fairboard has made several new changes to the 4-H/FFA Show Schedule.
Please check out the new schedule.
Miami County Fair Updates –
April 2nd 7pm on Zoom
With all the changes happening to the schedule and classes for the 2024 Miami County Fair, Katelyn and Karla are hosting a Miami County Fair Update Zoom.
We will be going over schedule changes, new rules, and class & department changes. Invitations will be going out
the end of March, but mark your calendars
now and bring your questions.
The zoom will be recorded for those unable to attend that evening.

Insect-Themed Art Contest
The Pesticide Safety and IPM program is
hosting an insect-themed art contest.
This contest is for Kansas 4-Her's & art students across the state. The theme this year is
"Incognito: Insects in Disguise".
The program encourages youth and adults
to get creative and create an
entry before the April 15, 2024 deadline.

4-H Volunteer Training
The Association of Kansas 4-H Volunteers is hosting "Spring Into Volunteering" in Salina on the K-State Campus on Saturday, April 20.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the day will conclude at 3 p.m. This is for anyone serving as a 4-H Volunteer or considering it!
The goal is for volunteers to go home recharged, excited, and ready to try some new things in their volunteer roles.
Fee $20 - Take to your local Extension Office
