Hello NTMCA,
Spring is in the air, which means many of us are in the middle of election season, or starting the budget process for FY25, or gearing up for boards and committee appointments, or coordinating annual records destruction, or implementing new software, or taking various training and certification courses, or getting the next agenda packet ready to post, or all of the above. As the saying goes, we wear many hats and I am sure I am not alone in feeling like my tower of hats is starting to lean these days.
My father used to tell me a story about an old man at his church growing up. The congregation was celebrating him as he turned 95 and his pastor asked him what his secret was. He said "You just have to keep on going." When I was younger, I thought that meant that I had to do it myself, that I had to be independent and strong. That to keep on going, I needed to rely on myself. Over the past few years, I have learned that it also means that my family and my peers can also keep me going. That I need my support system to help keep me going when my hats are leaning or when one falls off.
At our monthly business meeting in Carrollton, during our roundtable discussion, we all agreed that we are busier than ever. My hope is that our chapter can be that motivation for each other and that we can keep each other going when we see a leaning hat. Our chapter has so much knowledge and experience to share. One of the hats that is causing me trouble could be a hat that you have already held onto against the wind.
I am excited for what the rest of this year has in store for our chapter. I hope to see everyone logged into our next virtual meeting at the end of March. Hold onto your hats, and don't forget to grab your colleague's hat too!
Warmest regards,
Shelley Scazzero
