Dear Erika,
River City Food Bank has seen a dramatic rise in the number of people seeking our services this year, including nearly 7,000 households in February, the equivalent of 22,122 people through our Emergency Food Distribution program. This is an astounding 43% increase over the same period in 2023.
As the need for our services increases, your support has never been more critical.
Roman and Jennifer rent a home in Midtown. Inflated prices coupled with an unexpected dental emergency meant that they could not afford all their bills. That is when they turned to River City Food Bank. Jennifer said, “We couldn’t make our paychecks stretch far enough and needed help.”
Because of you, River City Food Bank welcomes anyone experiencing food insecurity without judgement or barriers. Your support means that families like Jennifer’s can focus on their health.

Save Market Match with RCFB | |
|
River City Food Bank's CalFresh Outreach Amy Dierlam, along with many in the community, participated in the Save Market Match Rally at the capitol on March 20, advocating for the preservation of this vital program. Many RCFB guests rely on CalFresh funds to purchase groceries, and the proposed budget cuts pose a significant threat to our community.
Market Match impact extends beyond benefiting CalFresh recipients, it also provides essential support to farmers. It is crucial to recognize the immense value this program brings to our community, serving hundreds of thousands of households and contributing to local economies statewide.

In their 24 years of marriage, Shaun and his wife have created a close-knit family of seven, residing near Midtown, Sacramento. With children ranging from nine to 26 years old, their household is vibrant and energetic.
For two years, they have turned to RCFB to navigate the challenges posed by rising food costs and balance their monthly budget.
They count on groceries from the food bank to create cherished family meals. Shaun highlights favorites including street tacos, steak and potatoes, and hearty chicken dishes, which have become a source of joy and togetherness during uncertain times.
