A Message from Board President Tom Manion
Greetings PSM Members,
It's hard to believe that it's already spring, but here we are! Soon the legislative session will be over and temperatures will start to rise, and unfortunately, so will the rates of the preventable injuries that often accompany warmer weather. And so our work continues uninterrupted...
Our Data to Action webinar series in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health continues to be a huge success. I hope you'll join us in April for TWO exciting sessions on Transportation Safety (NEW DATE TBD) and on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) (April 29th). Like the title suggests, we wanted to bring data to the forefront with this webinar series. Sometimes, as service providers or policy makers or prevention educators, we can lose sight of the value of quality data. But the truth is that data and trend analysis allows us to do our jobs more efficiently and more effectively. Did you miss our recent sessions on preventing intimate partner violence, violent death or suicide? Register your free PSM member account on our website (www.safermaryland.org) if you haven't already so you can access recordings of each of these trainings.
Speaking of training, I am pleased to announce that applications for PSM Continuing Education Scholarships are NOW OPEN for 2024! PSM is happy to provide these scholarships so that our members can attend trainings or conferences related to their work in the injury or violence prevention spaces. Scholarships can cover registration fees, travel expenses and/or lodging expenses, but not mileage, parking, meal reimbursement or other per diem expenses. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until June 10, 2024 or until all scholarship funds have been awarded. To apply, register your FREE member account on our website (www.safermaryland.org) and click on "Member Scholarships" in your account portal. Limited funds are available, so apply now! More details can be found on the application page.
Wishing you all a safe and healthy spring,
-Tom
