This online interactive mapping platform enables First Nations and Métis communities, municipalities, landowners, and other interested parties to select, integrate, share, communicate, and interact with a wide variety of energy resource developments and metallic and industrial mineral potential data across Alberta.

AB: Directive 091: Rock-Hosted Mineral Resource Development |
On March 1, 2024, the AER assumed full regulatory oversight of mineral resources development in the province. The full proclamation of the Mineral Resource Development Act (MRDA) by the Government of Alberta migrates this area of responsibility and oversight from Alberta Energy to the AER.

AB: Pilot for Reclaiming Peatlands |
On March 6, 2024, the AER released a pilot program for reclaiming peatland, to streamline the reclamation process by transferring regulatory authority to the AER to approve requests for land use changes for oil and gas dispositions.
The AER will accept submissions for the pilot program between February 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025. Requests can be submitted through One Stop.

AB: Site Reduction Reclamation Certificate Pilot |
On March 6, 2024, the AER released a site reduction reclamation pilot, that allows licensees to apply for a reclamation certificate on the unused portion of a well site that meets equivalent land use capability even though the well and portion of the well site are still active.
The AER will accept 100 applications under this pilot. Applications for site reduction certificates must meet the requirements of the interim directive and the AER’s minimum setback distances and safety requirements. Applications will be closed as of August 29, 2025, or once 100 applications have been received.

AB: 2024/25 AER Administration Fees (Industry Levy) |
Invoices to operators detailing the fee calculations were emailed on April 1, 2024, with payment due by May 1, 2024. If you have not already signed up for electronic delivery, please forward your preferred corporate email address to AdminFeeCoordinator@aer.ca.
A late-payment penalty is 20 per cent on any portion of the fee that remains unpaid after the due date.

AB: 2024/25 Orphan Fund Levy - LLR and OWL Programs |
Orphan fund levy invoices will be emailed to the address the AER has on file by April 10, 2024. All orphan fund levy invoices must be paid in full by the licensee or approval holder and received by the AER by May 10, 2024. Failure to pay the full invoiced amount by May 10, 2024, will result in a penalty of 20 per cent of the original invoiced amount being assessed to the licensee.
If the licensee or approval holder does not receive their orphan fund levy invoice they must contact OrphanLevy@aer.ca to request a copy. To update corporate email or mailing addresses, contact Directive067@aer.ca.

The AER announced that geophysical applications from the Application Disposition Process and Tracking (ADEPT) will be moved to the Exploration Application System (ExAS) on April 15, 2024.

SK: OGEMR/D36 Amendments in Effect |
The revised version of the Oil and Gas Emissions Management Regulations (OGEMR) came into force on February 15, 2024. Amendments to Directive PNG036: Venting and Flaring Requirements came into force on March 8, 2024.
The recent amendments to OGEMR and Directive PNG036 support maintaining jurisdiction over emissions by providing a pathway for a new Equivalency Agreement (EA) between Environment and Climate Change Canada and Saskatchewan to replace the current EA, which is set to expire on December 31, 2024.

BC: Dormant Facility & Pipeline Liability |
As of June 1, 2024, the Permittee Capability Assessment (PCA) program will include dormant facilities and pipelines when calculating a permit holder’s level of liability for 2024 corrective action requirements.
The PCA assesses the financial health of each permit holder and attempts to mitigate risk through corrective actions to help reduce liability and/or collect security.
