CancerCare's Stories of Help and Hope

Throughout the year, CancerCare presents the stories of people who have cancer, their caregivers and more.

Our latest story comes from Michelle K., who was diagnosed with ampullary cancer, a rare form of cancer, shortly after having her first child. She recounts her first reactions, the success of surgery and chemotherapy and the help a community of support was able to provide for her young family.

She now shares her story with many others in our Stories of Help and Hope.

National Social Work Month

We honor CancerCare's oncology social workers during National Social Work Month in March. Their hard work and dedication through hours of counseling, support groups, community programs, answering Hopeline calls and much more provides the backbone of our free, vital services for people affected by cancer. Tirelessly working throughout the year, their impact is immeasurable.

Thank you so much for everything you do!

AML World Awareness Day 2025

There is a need for education and support around the long-term physical and psychological effects of treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Many people are unaware of the impact of AML treatment on a patient’s long-term physical and psychological health, what management and supportive medical care is available for the long-term biological effects of AML, strategies to support patients with the long-term physical and psychological effects of AML treatment and where patients, caregivers, and families can find further information, support and practical advice.

AML World Awareness Day, on April 21, 2025, aims to educate the whole AML community and offers accessible resources to address these gaps. We ask individuals from around the world to come together to join us and help raise awareness of AML. Learn more about AML World Awareness Day 2025.

Spots Available for Our Healing Hearts Family Bereavement Camp

Our free Healing Hearts Family Bereavement Camp is a place where families who have lost a loved one to cancer can come together for a weekend retreat. Each year, families visit the beautiful Poconos for activities such as horseback riding, fishing and games. These are combined with therapeutic grief activities led by CancerCare professional oncology social workers.

This camp is for parents or guardians with children and teens ages 4-17 who have lost a loved one to cancer within the past two years.
