With Summer on the Way, Has Your Community Considered Public Beach Access?
Governor Kathy Hochul has been working to improve beach and pool access in New York, including initiatives like the "NY SWIMS" program, free pool access at state parks, and investments in shoreline restoration and lifeguard training.
With this initiative in mind, the Hudson River Valley Greenway is reminding communities that Community and Compact Grants are available to fund a wide range of feasibility studies, climate resiliency plans, waterfront revitalization planning efforts, and other plans that mutually further the community's and Greenway's goals. If your community is considering opening a public beach or has ideas for other projects, please reach out to our staff for technical assistance and guidance on pursuing a grant with us. We have increased the amount of project funds we award to $20,000 for a single Greenway Community, $30,000 for multiple Greenway Communities, and $50,000 for Compact Communities. Visit our website for further information: https://hudsongreenway.ny.gov/grants-funding
Grant applications for Community and Compact Grants will be released March 17, 2025, and due by May 2, 2025.
We can be reached by phone at (518) 473-3835 or hrvg@hudsongreenway.ny.gov.

Saratoga Lake Special Stormwater Protections Standards
The Town of Malta and three neighboring communities in Saratoga County, received a Community Planning Grant to create Stormwater Protections for Saratoga Lake. Gaps existed in state and local land use regulations for stormwater management, erosion control, and stream and wetland protections, which had the capacity to introduce pollution in the lake and the destruction of natural environments. These newly created development standards are designed to minimize pollution to Saratoga Lake from stormwater runoff and erosion, applicable to properties in the towns of Malta, Saratoga, Stillwater, and City of Saratoga Springs that are located within the boundary of the Saratoga Lake Protection & Improvement District.
