| | ISASP Testing Coming Soon | |
The Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP), will be administered to students beginning the week of March 31st for students in grades 5,8,10 testing in the area of Science. All other student testing will begin the week of April 7th-April 25th. Students will only be testing in one subject area per week.
These important assessments provide valuable insights into each student's academic growth over the past year and help guide classroom instruction.
Details:
- Science: (Grades 5, 8, and 10)
- Math: (Grades 3-11)
- Reading: (Grades 3-11)
- Writing: (Grades 3-11)
We encourage you to remind your child to give their best effort during these assessments. Their performance will help us better understand their individual strengths and areas for growth. This will also help us improve at each grade level and at the district level so we can better support every student.
| | Planned Facility Improvements | |
Work will be beginning soon on some security, safety, and beautification enhancements to the middle/high school complex entry! This will provide a more cohesive complex with entry upgrades and a ticket booth addition, which will help flow foot traffic safely and efficiently and prevent vehicular traffic from entering the complex.
Pavement will replace all the existing gravel areas along with several beautification enhancements to the grounds and concessions area. A designated accessible parking area will also be added.
Construction will be beginning soon with a planned completion date of August 2025.

We extend our gratitude and thanks to all of our staff and over the next few months we'd like to highlight our staff members completing their first and second-year of teaching at our district. Get to know these new faces and learn more about them below!
| | John V. Hanson Career Center | |
Students from Forest City High School, GHV High School, Lake Mills High School, and North Iowa High School have the opportunity to enroll in the John V. Hanson Career Center, located here in Forest City. This center offers students the opportunity to choose from four academies, each providing a pathway to well-paying jobs in high-demand fields.
The four available academies include Advanced Manufacturing, Construction Trades, Information Technology, and Health Careers. Students will earn college credit by enrolling in NIACC classes at the Career Center. This comes at no cost to the student or their parents. Additionally, textbooks, tools, and equipment are also provided to the students. Check out these videos to learn more and hear from students currently enrolled in these academies.
| | Congratulations to Olivia Eastvold, Zoe Gunderson, Ella Johnson, and Hayden Reynolds on qualifying for the State Archery Tournament! These students competed at the State Tournament the first weekend of March in Des Moines. Way to go! | | Classroom & Activity Highlights | | |
Our Physical Science students are currently learning about the concept of mass conservation. They're exploring how matter is structured and its transformations through physical and chemical changes. In a recent lab session, students worked on an engaging experiment to create Casein Plastic. By combining milk and vinegar, they observed first-hand whether mass remains unchanged during chemical reactions.
Beyond the scientific inquiry, this hands-on activity also serves as a platform for students to hone essential lab skills in chemistry. Along the way, they discovered that the mixture of vinegar and milk, while not particularly pleasant in appearance or smell, yields valuable insights into chemical processes.

Seven of our high school students have art being displayed at the Youth Art Month Exhibition at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, with three earning awards! Their work will be on display through March 29; be sure to check it out!
Congratulations to these talented students!

| | Fifth-grade students have been busy creating a museum showcasing famous patriots in the Revolutionary War. Students had multiple options for their museum exhibits: they could design a poster board display, develop a computer game featuring their patriot, or create a Canva presentation incorporating visuals and audio. As part of their exhibit, students researched and wrote a biography to bring their historical figure to life. The fifth-grade students did a great job creating tickets, posters, and extra mini-exhibit projects to include in the museum. The event ended with a live museum where students presented their exhibits to other fifth-grade students and staff from the school. The students enjoyed presenting and sharing all they learned about their patriots. It was a fun and interactive way to celebrate their learning and understanding of America’s founding. | | |
Our second-graders recently visited the Hanson Nature Center, where they expanded on their living things and their habitat unit!
Winnebago County Naturalist, Lisa Ralls, guided them through a captivating day of learning. This hands-on experience reinforced their classroom lessons and sparked a greater curiosity about nature and living things.

Our high school chemistry students are diving into the world of chemical reactions through a hands-on Double Replacement Reaction Lab. This engaging activity helps students understand how chemical equations are written and balanced, as well as how to identify precipitates—solid substances that form during certain reactions.
Using safe lab techniques and proper equipment, students mix different chemical solutions to observe real-time reactions, reinforcing their understanding of fundamental chemistry concepts. They carefully record their observations, analyze results, and write balanced chemical equations to explain what they see.
This lab not only strengthens their problem-solving and analytical skills but also encourages curiosity and scientific thinking. By conducting real experiments, our students are developing a deeper appreciation for the chemistry that surrounds us every day!
| | The third-graders spent some time reading Dr. Suess books to the Kindergarten classes to celebrate Dr. Suess Week! They are great reading-buddies! | | | |
