Dear RBUSD Community,

March signals spring and spring is a time for new beginnings. As we continue the second half of the school year, finishing with great momentum, we are beginning to plan for the school year ahead. Transitioning to a new grade, and particularly a new level or school can cause anxious feelings. We want to help those feelings turn into excitement, as the RBUSD team is here to guide and support each step of the way. This month we will look at what we are doing to begin the journey to the next school year, helping each and every student find their right path.

ELEMENTARY

Our Elementary Schools are buzzing with excitement as we welcome future TK and Kindergarten families for 2025-26. Each award-winning campus offered tours that showcased our exceptional programming, including offerings like LiveWell Garden lessons (sponsored by Beach Cities Health District) and Hands-on Art (sponsored by PTA), Lego Robotics competitions, Battle of the Books, and engaging learning experiences. As the only South Bay district offering curriculum aligned with the science of reading, we are committed to preparing our youngest learners with the academic and social skills they need to thrive. We can't wait to welcome our new students in August!

Supporting Student Transitions

Parras and Adams Middle Schools excel at guiding students through critical educational milestones, with a special focus on smooth transitions to and from middle school.

For our 8th graders preparing for high school, we've implemented a comprehensive transition program:

  • RUHS and middle school counselors are collaborating closely
  • Classroom presentations introduce high school opportunities
  • Individual counseling sessions for course selection
  • RUHS counselors will visit both middle schools this month to meet with each 8th grade student

The kick-off event, RU Ready Night, showcased the vast opportunities awaiting our students at Redondo Union High School.

Parents and guardians: Stay tuned for course selection information and reach out to middle school counselors with any questions.

Summer Transition Camps

Before school begins, incoming middle schoolers are encouraged to attend Camp Adams or Camp Parras. Led by WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) student leaders, these camps help new students meet classmates, learn about school culture, tour the campus, and build excitement for their middle school adventure.

College and Career Preparation

RUHS counselors and NEST (college & career center) staff have been providing comprehensive support to juniors, helping them prepare college applications, essays, and preliminary college lists for fall submissions. At RUHS, college planning begins junior year to create a more manageable process.

The NEST has been conducting one-on-one meetings with juniors this semester to provide personalized guidance. Meanwhile, seniors celebrate their college acceptances by ringing the bell in The NEST. We also proudly recognize students enlisting in military service and those taking advantage of the South Bay Promise (enrollment fee waiver) at community colleges. The counseling offices are filled with excitement as we celebrate the Class of 2025's diverse post-graduation paths!
