As women in ministry and leadership, we often find that our lived experiences inform our experiences with the Holy. Cole Arthur Riley offers a path to validating that truth through this powerful book.
"In these deeply transporting pages, Arthur Riley reflects on the stories of her grandmother and father, and how they revealed to her an embodied, dignity-affirming spirituality, not only in what they believed but in the act of living itself."

Beautiful and Terrible Things is a memoir by Baptist pastor, Amy Butler. In the book, Butler recounts how she embraced her calling and navigated the challenges of ministry, while also vulnerably sharing the personal realities and difficulties of a public ministry life. It is often difficult for women in ministry to be honest about their stories without fear of retribution in their current ministry roles, so this book is a gift in how honestly it reveals both the sacred beauty and deep pain of one minister’s life. I highly suggest listening to the audiobook, which is read by the author, to hear her stories in her own voice.
| | Ministry Transitions & Ordinations | | |
Have you transitioned to a new role? Have you recently been ordained? Let us know so we can celebrate you!
If you know a Baptist woman who has transitioned to a new ministerial role, been ordained or will be ordained soon, please send information nikkihardeman@bwim.info. Please also include pictures from ordinations as well! BWIM wants to share in celebrating congregational affirmation of all women in ministry, and it helps us keep records of all of the women ordained in Baptist life.
