A Message from the Mayor

This month, we marked significant milestones.

We officially open the newest York Regional Police substation in Vaughan. We've heard from residents loud and clear-safety is a top priority, and we're taking action. The new YRP substation in Kleinburg at 10418 Islington Ave., will bring more police presence to Vaughan's west end. More officers on patrol makes for stronger comunity partnerships and results in safer neighbourhoods. This new substation is an important step, but we need bail reform to keep criminals off our streets and behind bars where they belong. We will not stop fighting for the safety of our residents.

When I ran for Mayor, I made a commitment to build roads, tackle traffic gridlock, and keep Vaughan moving-and that's exactly what we're doing. One key project delivering on this promise is the Kirby Road Extension, which is well underway and set to open in 2026! This new connection will reduce congestion, improve travel times, and make life easier for Vaughan residents. Thank you to the federal government for their $20 million contribution to help make this a reality. And a special thank you to our incredible City of Vaughan staff, who are working hard to ensure we deliver this project on time for our residents.

This is what strong leadership looks like-taking action, delivering results, and building a Vaughan that works for the people we are honoured to serve, while keeping our city moving.

IN THE NEWS

This month, we marked a significant milestone as we officially open the newest York Regional Police substation in Vaughan. We want our residents to feel safe, and that’s why I’m happy that the York Regional Police has partnered with the City on this one of a kind project. We need bail reform to keep criminals off the streets and behind bars where they belong. I want to thank Chief MacSween and our partners at YRP for their continued commitment to working with us to keep our residents safe in our community.

As Mayor, one of my top priorities is to keep Vaughan moving. Gridlock erodes our quality of life, undermines our economic success and damages our natural environment. We are making progress on my Nine Point Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock – including the Kirby Road Extension. Improving the city’s east-west connections is vitally important – it will relieve the pressure on nearby roads and residential neighbourhoods and provide a critical link between Vaughan and Richmond Hill. The Kirby Road Extension will make it easier to travel through our city. Many in our community have asked for Kirby Road to be extended and we have committed $86.5 million to make this dream a reality. I want to thank the Federal government for their support and commitment to making Vaughan a more accessible city for future generations.

The United States has triggered an unprecedented and unnecessary trade war with its closest ally. In response, Vaughan has taken decisive action to protect Canadian jobs and our local economy by approving a procurement strategy that bans U.S suppliers and prioritizes Canadian products, goods and services.

Vaughan is the first municipality in Ontario to ratify a policy that bans U.S. suppliers.

As Mayor, I am committed to doing everything in my power to stand up for Vaughan businesses and to safeguard our city’s economic future.
