Holmes Bible College

March 2025

From the Desk of the President

Greetings from Greenville!

We are catching our breath on spring break this week because February was filled with exciting and busy events. The campus was full of friends and activities. I invite you to read about some of these events in this newsletter. Click here to download a PDF of this newsletter.

As we look forward to April, we invite you to join us for the annual James D. Leggett Memorial Golf Tournament on April 17. Click here to download the information packet. We are looking for both sponsors and players (perhaps you could do one or both!). This is a major fundraiser for our college and we appreciate your help.

We are looking for more students to join this fall. Our best recruiters are you - our alumni and friends. If you know someone that God is calling into ministry, connect them with us. Our mission is to train those called by God for successful ministry at an affordable cost.

Thank you for your faithful and sacrificial support. Your generosity helps us to carry on the work and keeps costs down for the students. We are all grateful.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Kevin D. Sneed, President

and the HBC family

Nearly 60 alumni, students, and friends gathered on campus on February 26-27 for Founder’s Week. Our guest speakers were from InTouch Ministries and included 1979 graduate Rev. Ron McCants. We received two days of training on the Charles Stanley Life Principles.

During Founder's Week we also reopened the refurbished Nina C. Holmes Library with a prayer of rededication. This library was damaged from flooding during Hurricane Helene. The restoration is now complete under the direction of Pastor Dale Huff. We want to thank volunteers from Beech Springs PH Church and Easley First PH Church as well as many volunteers and alumni like Nathan Brown, Don Woodard, and others. Our library is still overseen by the very capable Carol Bush.

Everyone enjoyed great fellowship around the table and wonderful worship in the evening services. The week ended with the Alumni Banquet. Look in next month’s newsletter for a full report from the banquet.

Presidential Installation

Rev. Kevin Daniel Sneed was officially installed as the 8th president of Holmes Bible College on February 28. President Sneed was appointed by the Board of Trustees in December of 2023 and commenced duties in July 2024. The installation ceremony was originally scheduled for October 2024 but was delayed because of Hurricane Helene.

Nearly 150 people gathered in the Holmes Memorial Church for the ceremony. Board of Trustees Chairman, Rev. W. A. Mills led the installation with past president Bishop D. Chris Thompson and many other guests in attendance. President Sneed was joined by his wife, Summer, and children, Abby and Nate, on stage for a powerful prayer of consecration. President Sneed’s message was that Holmes has a great mission given by a great God to train a great generation for a great work.

Volunteer Weekend Report

We were so pleased with the response to our volunteer weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to the campus on February 21-22 for a weekend of work. Over 40 people showed up to paint, clean, weed, and repair to ensure our campus was well prepared for our special events. Final debris from Hurricane Helene was also removed. This outpouring of support and physical effort was overwhelming and encouraging. You accomplished so much! We will organize another volunteer weekend in the fall.

SEND Week (Missions Emphasis Week)

Last month we had our annual missions emphasis week known as SEND Week. This event is organized each year by Seth and Madeline Nix with The Awakening. We welcomed several missionaries on campus to teach, preach, and present including Linwood and Nancy Berry, Frank and Mandy Moore, and Chris and Alicia Dunlap. Short-term missionaries Aleiah Winchester and Paul and Beverly Oxley also joined us. We enjoyed our annual "international meal" with food representing every continent.

At Holmes Bible College, we prioritize both the call to missions for missionaries and the need for the local church to participate in missionary support. We always strive to inform our campus about missions, engage our community in missions, and connect our students with missionaries. Many students were stirred this week toward cross-cultural ministry.

Prayer Requests:

  • David Baker, a freshman student whose house burned in Newbery, SC over the weekend. Pray for his encouragement and restoration. Pray that his needs will be met quickly.
  • New computers for the Library and the Dean's Office
  • More students to join in the fall 2025 term.
  • More funding to serve students
  • Health and blessing for our faculty and staff including two who need a special touch - Steve Shealy and Albert Bucklew
  • Opportunities to positively impact our community with the Gospel
