Our next AGM is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025.  There will be five Director terms that expire.  Please consider submitting your name for a position on the Board. The LPRA Board is strictly volunteer-based, we receive no compensation, but it’s very fulfilling, and we are a fun group! If you are interested or want further information, please contact info@longpointrpa.com

Sand Bulldozing Deadline

Sand dozing must be completed along Woodstock and Beach Avenue by April 30 as instructed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Our Gold Sponsor, LMP Mini Excavation and Landscaping, is offering sand cleanup this year. Prices will be discussed and agreed upon before work commences. Give them a call at 519-550-1336 if you are interested. Different skid steers and excavators are available.

Long Point Bird Observatory

The Spring migration bird banding will commence on April 1 at the Old Cut Research Station. You are welcome to visit during the season, see the banding, talk to staff and volunteers, buy some goodies from their shoppe, and walk the trails. Banding happens from dawn to around midday every morning, weather permitting.  It’s a great experience for all to enjoy. Be sure to check them out!

Hazardous Waste Drop Off

There may still be time to make an appointment to drop off your hazardous waste in Simcoe (April 19) and Delhi (May 24).  Registration began on March 19.

Membership Renewal 2025

This year, we had 206 members requiring renewal. Today we have 88 outstanding.  Thanks to those members who have already renewed. We’re getting there!

Causeway

We received a February update from NC staff regarding tree planting along the Causeway.

Staff have reached out to landowners along the Causeway, some landowners on Highway 59 N. of Lakeshore Rd. and Hastings Dr., adjacent to the Causeway. Thirty trees are forecasted to be planted in these locations, most of which can be accommodated within the County Right of Way (ROW), and approximately 11, which would require planting onto private property.

The cost of the trees planted on the ROW is already included in the County’s Tree Planting Program.  As NC has committed to try to offset the loss of trees on the Causeway, the additional 11 trees, IF planted on private land, would be approximately $4,200 and would be absorbed in the County’s tree planting program.

Lake Erie Water Levels 2025

This Winter, the water level in Lake Erie descended to its 100-year average. However, because the Great Lakes Basin received a large amount of snowfall this season, the lake is predicted to rise significantly during the Spring runoff.

February 2025 Newsletter Follow Up ‘Caught on Camera’

Thanks to our members who provided tips regarding the trespasser who allegedly removed property on Beach Avenue. The information was submitted to the OPP with members' names excluded.

The property owner still holds out hope that the personal property allegedly removed will be returned.
