We are a designated Pilgrimage Site for Jubilee 2025

2025 is the Jubilee Holy Year, the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord, an "event of great spiritual, ecclesial, and social significance in the life of the Church." The concept of "Jubilee" has its origins in the Book of Leviticus (chapter 25) as a special year of reconciliation, pilgrimage, and coming home. Pope Francis has designated the 2025 Holy Year as a time to renew ourselves as "Pilgrims of Hope."

In his letter on the 2025 Jubilee, Pope Francis emphasized the importance of hope, prayer, and solidarity. He also called for the Church to be a witness to God's love.

During the Jubilee Year, in addition to performing a work of mercy and penance, a Jubilee Indulgence may be obtained by making a pious pilgrimage to a sacred Jubilee site, such as those designated in Rome and the Holy Land, as well as by making a pious visit to other sacred places around the world, including any minor basilica, Marian sanctuary, or national sanctuary. (Decree on the Granting of Indulgence during the Ordinary Jubilee Year called by His Holiness Pope Francis, 13.05.2024).

A Jubilee Indulgence is a gift of grace from the Church that forgives temporal punishment for sin. It's also known as a plenary indulgence.

How to obtain a jubilee indulgence:

  • Pray for the Pope's intentions
  • Attend Mass
  • Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) and Eucharist (communion)
  • Perform acts of devotion, such as:

  • Pilgrimage
  • Donating to the poor
  • Supporting religious or social works
  • Volunteering

The United States Conference of Bishops (USCCB) designated all National Shrines as a sacred Jubilee site, which includes us! We have numerous opportunities for all of the suggested acts of devotion, along with speakers and events to renew ourselves as Pilgrims of Hope.

Throughout this Jubilee Year, we will continue to add opportunities. Please visit our website and read our monthly newsletter for any updates and changes.

Isaiah 42:16

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini

Hope: A Call to Faith in Action

Hope is a choice. It is not always easy and does not come without effort. Choosing hope requires courage, especially in a world where uncertainty, fear, and injustice weigh heavily on many lives. Yet it is through this very courage that we open ourselves to God's grace, allowing it to transform both our hearts and the world around us.

Around the world, wars, displacement, and environmental crises are driving millions from their homes, forcing entire families to seek new beginnings. Here in the United States, many face growing social inequality, political division, and economic pressures. In our beloved city of Chicago, violence and poverty challenge communities struggling to access education, healthcare, and opportunities.

In the face of these challenges, hope may seem fragile or distant. But like Mother Cabrini, who faced daunting obstacles with unshakeable trust in God’s providence, we are called to choose hope and act upon it. Hope, after all, asks for courage—a willingness to see beyond the present hardships and take steps forward in faith.

Hope also requires that we make time and dedicate effort to what matters most. It calls us to be present to others, whether by lending a hand to those in need, supporting initiatives that build peace and equity, or advocating for the vulnerable. These actions, though they may seem small, are powerful expressions of God’s love working through us.

Mother Cabrini’s life teaches us that this courage to hope can transform not only individual lives but entire communities. Each act of compassion and service, no matter how modest, is a spark of hope that brightens the path for others. It reminds us that God's light shines through even the darkest moments.

Let us choose hope together as Pilgrims of Hope. Let us walk with trust, knowing that God leads us, and that our efforts—no matter how simple—are part of a greater mission. In living this way, we reflect Christ’s love and become bearers of light in the world.
