March 2025 Parent Bulletin

Greetings, RSPA Families!

Spring is just around the corner, and many great things are happening here at RSPA. March brings some exciting times for our staff and scholars, with Spring Break just around the corner! However, as STAAR testing approaches, we have some hard work ahead.

We are committed to strengthening reading comprehension skills and math numeracy for our PreK-2nd grade scholars. Parents, we encourage you to spend time at home reading books with your scholar and helping them with basic math numeracy skills. This will greatly enhance their learning experience and prepare them for future assessments.

In grades 3rd-6th, we are focusing on STAAR preparation and individualizing instruction for increased mastery of the TEKS. We will administer the Mock STAAR test this month for 3rd-8th grade. Please see all dates listed below. Our first test begins March 19th and goes through April 1st. Please make sure your scholar gets a good night's rest, arrives on time, and eats a healthy breakfast.

It’s Rodeo Time! Our 5th-8th grade scholars will attend the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show on March 6th and 3rd-4th graders will attend on March 19th. Parents, please make sure your scholars are dressed in the appropriate attire, and if you would like to volunteer, please let your scholar’s teacher know

Our annual College & Career Convention Day will be held March 20th where 3rd-8th grade scholars will have an opportunity to Imagine their Future! Have your scholar come dressed for success and ready to learn about some amazing careers.

Attendance matters and is a vital part of your scholar's success. Our motto is 98% is great. We are challenging scholars to reach 100% in attendance every Thursday. The class with the best attendance each Thursday will receive a prize.

Student grades are due March 7th, and report cards go home March 21st. Parents, check your scholar’s backpack daily to ensure your scholar is completing homework assignments. Additionally, discuss with your scholar(s) what they are learning and encourage them to give 100% effort in each class.

As always, thank you for allowing us to invest in your scholar, and thank you for being a part of RSPA.

PARENT ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

Attendance:

Remember how much fun our perfect attendance scholars had at our S.N.O.W. Day? Don't slack now! Scholars with perfect attendance (or only miss one school day or less) from January 21st through May 9th can attend the RSPA Splash Party on May 16th!

Please make sure that your child attends school daily. It is imperative to their academic success and growth in school. As a reminder, students who miss ten or more school days may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws. Remember, three tardies are equivalent to one absence.

STAAR Testing

STAAR Testing for 3rd-8th grade scholars begins April 16th. To prepare, Mock Testing is from March 19th through April 1st. See schedules below.

Please assist in your scholar's success by ensuring they get a good night's rest, arrive on time, and eat a healthy breakfast!

Hello, Parents and Guardians,

As the end of the 3rd nine weeks approaches, STAAR testing is on the horizon. It is important to converse with your child about their overall mental health, as anxiety tends to elevate at this time. Encourage your scholar to talk to you about their feelings instead of harboring them.

During guidance lessons for the upper grades, I will discuss what anxiety looks like and strategies on how to cope with it. I want to ensure they approach testing with a positive mindset and are ready to tackle the STAAR.

When it comes to their academics, please ensure to work closely with their teachers to have an understanding of the objectives that your scholar may be struggling with and a plan to help them overcome it, i.e., private and/or school tutorials, etc.

Join me for Coffee with the Counselor on March 6th to discuss how to help your kiddos cope with anxiety!

See you then!

Best Regards,

Jassitte Gibson, M.Ed.
