MWMC Budget Moves Forward, to be Reviewed by Local Governments

The MWMC's annual budget approval process is in full swing now, and the Commission will be voting on the proposed budget in April. If adopted, the budget will then be presented to the Eugene City Council, the Springfield City Council, and the Lane County Board of Commissioners. All three governing bodies will be asked to approve the budget, and then it can be taken back to the MWMC for appropriation.

DEQ Accepting Public Comments on MWMC Mercury Minimization Plan

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is currently accepting public comments on the MWMC's Mercury Minimization Plan, which will guide our enforcement of mercury pollution prevention practices. This includes updates to how we provide oversight for industrial sites in our service area as well as outreach to both businesses and community members on mercury pollution. If you would like to provide comments, you can do so by contacting the DEQ.

Pollution Solutions

Our pollution prevention digital advertising campaign has launched for the second time, so you might see our ads on streaming TV, social media, or on billboards around town over the next three months. We're working to remind people that grease should never go down drains, and wipes should never be flushed down toilets. These pollutants cause severe issues in the wastewater system, and educating the public on how they can properly dispose of them is an important part of our maintenance efforts. Remember, wipes and grease go in the garbage!
