BRYAN ALLEN

The equipment these days is just amazing as cameras can focus incredibly fast on the eye of a human, bird, even an insect. Subject recognition such as car and airplanes as it will focus in on the driver's side and pilot's windows. The modern camera has easily about 400 menu items to navigate. Being able to customize the camera with buttons one uses most frequently makes them easier to use. Really, it's a computer with a lens, however as Julius Shulman said, “The camera is the least important element in photography.”

My work has been published in Westways, Travel and Leisure, The National Hockey League, Zamboni Inc., The Jay Leno Show, real estate and ice-skating magazines, brochures, food ads, local newspapers and websites and hopefully your living room wall.

Started photography when Santa brought me a Kodak Instamatic camera over 55 years ago at only 11 years old. In high school my favorite class was photography and my Dad built me a dark room at home for black and white film development. Took some college classes in photography but mostly enjoyed being on the road. Having moved from Michigan the scenery in the West was just stunning and I made it my goal to see all the national parks. Still working on that goal with only 12 left to see.

Photography on the road is something still enjoyable but also enjoy wildlife, time lapse, street photography, family portraits but really enjoy the spontaneous and humorous pictures. Have worked with a company that builds seasonal ice rinks for the last 20 years and have dropped the managing part and now am the photographer for them, (a lot less stress.)

Love living in the San Bernardino Mountains as there are photo opportunities at every turn as there's a lot of them, just look at your tires. The wildlife at our lakes, forest and sky always present themselves with numerous chances for great shots.

We have local photo club here in Lake Arrowhead, “The Mountain Arts Photographic Society” part of the Mountain Arts Network and Mountain Arts Gallery. The Club meets the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 PM in the Community Arts Center, lower Lake Arrowhead Village. Hope to see you there, all skill levels welcome.

MARLENE AKEROYD

Marlene Akeroyd is an experimental artist, with a keen appreciation for nature and its seasons, Mar sees the potential for expression in even the humblest of materials. She is unfettered by academic art constraints. Her works are in traditional and in unusual materials, and in a variety of techniques.

Born in Louisiana, Mar spent forty years of her life in both Lake Charles and New Orleans. The next twenty years were in Southern California, and five years abroad, living in Switzerland. Upon her return to the U.S., she resumed living in California, later relocating to Middletown N.J. Her life, in these diverse cultural locations, is the creative infusion that informs her artworks. Mar has learned that art, and the potential for art, could be encountered anyplace.

As a member of the Middletown Senior Center, Mar attended watercolor classes. In 2019 at the Middletown Art Center, she had her first art showing. In 2020 she was awarded honorable mention at a showing of Monmouth Arts Center of Middletown, N.J.

Marlene devoted nine years to volunteering for the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association in Leonardo, N.J., in Anne’s Thrift Shop, and occasionally taught the visually impaired inventive art techniques.

In October of 2020 she moved to Lake Arrowhead, and shortly afterwards joined the Mountain Arts Gallery. Currently her work may be viewed at the "Mountain Arts Gallery", Lake Arrowhead Village, Lake Arrowhead, CA 92352 and on Facebook at Mar’s Art.

DELPHINE BEACH-JONES

I have been a member of the Mountain Arts Gallery for over 13 years and I find myself blessed to be displaying my art for others, locally and from all over the world, to enjoy.

As a child I would take a pencil and copy cartoon caricatures on the one inch margin of the Sunday newspaper and was so pleased with my effort that I continued with art in one form or another and not taking myself too seriously.

Moving forward several decades I met Ray Atzet (former member) and he said he would teach me to enjoy watercolor painting. I reluctantly agreed because I didn’t know what to say, and Darlene Kraft (former President) convinced me to be juried. My confidence grew and the smile on my face became permanent. And I was grateful I had enrolled in a couple of community college classes which fed my appetite.

When I set out with any new painting I just don’t follow the norm with thumb sketches, and tactics that make me question what I am doing, or what I need to do; I just paint. No music, no noise, just a blank sheet of paper, my paints on my right side and brushes, water and paper roll on my left. I paint what mood suits me and I lose myself in a world of peace. When I step back and take a breath I am excited with the result and so happy, usually!

I recently got juried in to include mixed media into my work and I am looking forward to the outcome of this challenging adventure.

JOHN ARTHUR

John Arthur began drawing and painting as a child in his father's studio and has not stopped since. He began his career as a professional artist and illustrator more than twenty-five years ago, and his paintings have graced the covers of books, magazines and periodicals and have been seen by millions. His limited edition prints and portfolios have sold internationally, and he has illustrated four children's books. John's prestigious list of clients include Disney, Warner Bros., Learning Tree and Carlton Greetings, Collins & Brown, and a host of others.

Although John is primarily known for his Romantic Fantasy watercolors, (ROMANTASY(tm) he is a figurative artist whose talents are used in a variety of genres and mediums. His latest publications; The Art Of Faery by Paper Tiger Press and The World of Faery (by Harper Collins) features John alongside some of the world's great fantasy artists. This year Pure Inspiration's Fantasy Art Collection is released with John as one of the featured artists. He also instructs Master Art Seminars and has a passion for Blues piano and fly fishing.

John's wife, Terry Lynn Williams, is a romantic who makes romantic jewelry. Her life-long love of craft and her partnership with artist/husband John Arthur have inspired her to create a line of unique one-of-a-kind hand crocheted jewelry.
