Opening Prayer
You who are
Mother of Good Courage,
Source and Seed
of Eternal Hope Unfailing
We bow, resting our needing cups, before Your mercy seat.
We lift hands and hearts to You.
Our praise cries out Your Name
God of Wonder, Way Maker,
Holy, Holy, Holy One!
You, Redeemer of Brokenness,
Sanctifier of Sufferings and Sorrows, we come to You
You who send Your servant Prayer
to find us,
and in Your swift chariot of Prayer
we are carried here before You.
Our weeping
waters the rich soil
of Your garden most gracious.
The Fruit of Your Holy Kindness,
feeds our souls,
You are Bread and Cup.
Let it be so,
Your Wisdom
now Counsel to our tongue,
Your Great Courage
our manner and way,
Your Eternal Hope
the unfailing fire that lights our way.
Great One, Most High, Holy Wind
in Your Mercy…….

Pancake Supper Survival Guide
From our ministry partners at Building Faith:
You agreed in a pre-pageant haze to take over this year’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Lent seemed so far away. Now it’s around the corner. You know people will show up hungry. You know you have volunteers. What you don’tknow is how to turn on the church oven.
Breathe. You can do this. We can help. Through Building Faith we have experts to offer wisdom for just such occasions. Consider this a BTDT article, which of course stands for “been there, done that.”

Book Corner
A spiritual guide to healing from racial trauma with moving stories of historical significance—now in paperback!
In her previous work as Executive Director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing, Dr. Catherine Meeks fought tirelessly to shed light on racism and provide tools to enable faith communities to combat it. A public speaker and honored advocate of social change, she holds a unique place in the dialogue on dismantling racism. In this book, she shares powerful personal experiences that leave the reader with profound insights. She offers a much-needed meditative guide for the weary and frustrated, arguing that by looking inward and at each other clearly and with honesty, good people of all backgrounds can forge a long term and individual path to making a difference. Dr. Meeks takes the reader on the trajectory from self-awareness to recognition of the past to a new and individual way forward. Now in paperback, this edition comes with a discussion guide.
“This is where the journey toward a ‘beloved community’ begins. And so, for all who truly want to get well from the pernicious disease that is racism, The Night is Long but Light Comes in the Morning is a must-read."—The Very Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, dean, Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary

Learn about the Backyard National Park movement, which invites us all to create habitats that sustain life, one yard at a time.
Ecologist Douglas Tallamy, who founded the movement (sometimes also referred to as Homegrown National Parks) noted that, in the past, we simply expected our gardens to be pretty. In this moment, we are increasingly expecting that they also support life, build soil, sequester carbon and protect water.

The Feast of the Mystery of Creation
Since the 5th century, the Eastern Church has marked September 1 as the beginning of the year, celebrating “the day of Creation”, when God began the creation of the universe. But in the Western churches, the Christian year has begun with Advent and the beginning of the story of the Incarnation. Now there is an ecumenical movement across the western churches to establish a “Feast Day of the Mystery of Creation” on September 1st to the western liturgical calendars.
Come and learn about the history of this effort, its implications for preaching and worship, and its current status across the churches. We will discuss the distinction of this proposed feast from Earth Day, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and even the Season of Creation. We will explore how liturgical support for the first line of the Nicene Creed (We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth) has been missing in the West for centuries. We will consider how a deeper celebration of God the Creator can deepen our understanding of God’s salvation.
The Rev. Jerry Cappel is an Episcopal Priest in Kentucky and serves as the Director for the Center for Deep Green Faith. He has an M.Div. from Harding Graduate School of Religion and a Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
