Fall, Summer Registration to Open in April
As students contemplate where to enroll in college next fall, they should consider the benefits of attending Western Nevada College: affordability, outstanding faculty, smaller class sizes, generous financial assistance and scholarships, proximity to home, multiple campuses, flexible courses, accelerated classes, industry certifications and more.
Students can begin registering for the Fall 2025 semester — as well as summer session — in April. Continuing and returning students can start registering for both fall and summer classes via their myWNC accounts on Monday, April 7. New students can start registering on Monday, April 14.

Summer session begins June 9 and ends on Aug. 2. Fall semester starts on Aug. 25.

Next Star Party on March 29; Starlink Train Photographed in Recent Party
Attendees of the latest Star Party at Jack C. Davis Observatory took some fantastic photos of the Starlink satellite train that graced the skies. Felicity Clark and Tiffany Lewis captured the satellite, which is providing telecommunications for more than 100 countries and territories.
There also was viewing of Venus, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars, as more than 100 people attended the party.
The next Star Party at JCDO is scheduled for Saturday night, March 29.

ASWN Awards & Appreciation Ceremony on April 18 at Fandango
The Associated Students of Western Nevada will recognize outstanding students, faculty and staff during its annual Awards and Appreciation Ceremony on Friday night, April 18, at Casino Fandango.
The reception provides the student government group the opportunity to present awards to students in a variety of academic areas, including Workforce, Career and Technical Education; Jump Start; Liberal Arts; and Nursing & Allied Health.

Student Art Shows Coming to Fallon, Carson City Campuses
Spring is finally here! That means it's almost time to appreciate the budding talent of student artists on our Fallon and Carson City campuses.
Student art will be on display in Bristlecone Gallery from April 21 to May 9, with the participating artists scheduled to be honored on May 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the main gallery.
In Fallon, the Student Art show will open on April 24 in Virgil Getto Art Gallery.
| | | Jump Start Student Dru MacKay Receives Regents' Scholar Award |
The importance of family, education and helping others has been instilled in Dru MacKay since an early age, shaping him into the person he is today as a Western Nevada College dual-enrollment student.
As a Churchill County High School senior, Dru has challenged himself by taking college courses through WNC’s Jump Start program. He has met this academic challenge by making the Dean’s List and the Fallon Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents honored Dru and other Nevada standout college students as recipients of the Sam Lieberman Regents’ Scholar Award during its quarterly meeting on March 6.

Five Western Nevada College faculty members reached a professional milestone on Thursday when their tenure appointments were approved by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.
Kathryn Cocking, Nursing and Allied Health instructor; Dr. Christian Copley Salem, Chemistry and Biology instructor; Dr. John Duerk, Political Science and History instructor; Jaspreet Gill, Mathematics instructor; and Gregory Sly, Criminal Justice instructor, received tenure after serving the college and its students for at least three years with excellent instruction ratings.

Foundation Board Welcomes Two New Members
Western Nevada College Foundation is excited to announce two new additions to its Foundation Board.
Campagni Auto Group Director Cliff Sorensen and Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS) Lead Consumer Credit Officer Amber Kellner have joined the Foundation board, which now has 25 members.

Western Nevada College proudly joined forces with Great Basin College on March 24 for Rural Day at the Legislature, shining a spotlight on the vital role of rural community colleges in our state. For many of our students, faculty, and staff, it was a first-time experience inside the Nevada Legislature Building — a day filled with learning about state government and engaging with influential leaders.
Throughout the day, our delegation had the privilege of attending a senate meeting, interacting with esteemed state senators and assembly members, and gaining invaluable insights into legislative processes.

Career Fair 'Links' Students to Local Employers
Western Nevada College students and local employers benefited from a Career Fair on March 12 that was held in a new learning space ideal for this purpose. As many as 30 employers were present for this critical workforce training and networking event in The Link, located in the Aspen Building on the Carson City campus.

Eighth-Grader in Fallon Takes
Aviation Ground School Course
In a remarkable display of academic and extracurricular ambition, eighth-grade student Keagan Craig completed Western Nevada College's in-person AV 110 Private Pilot Ground School course.
This dual pursuit not only showcases Craig’s passion for aviation but also highlights the opportunities available for early engagement in higher education through Oasis’ partnership with Western Nevada College.

Western Nevada College’s Child Development Center (CDC) rolled into action on March 21, raising over $1,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during its annual Trike-A-Thon event.
A heartfelt thank you to the CDC staff and to the families of our CDC kiddos whose donations made this possible — your generosity makes a difference!

Chick-fil-A Supports Spirit Night for Second-Year Nursing Club
Chick-fil-A, located off South Carson Street, and its owners Matt and Kelly Hock hosted and supported a Spirit Night fundraiser for WNC's Second-Year Nursing Club on March 25. ASWN (student government), college community members and the public helped the nurses raise money as it received 10 percent of sales to support club activities.
Nursing's fundraising month also includes a prize raffle and a Jakota Wass concert at the Red Dog Saloon on March 28 in Viriginia City.

Walker River Paiute Tribal Education Group Visits Observatory
Jack C. Davis Observatory hosted a group of students from the Walker River Paiute Tribal Education Department in March. JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring provided a tour of the facilities, including the telescope room and the outdoor satellite dishes. Students looked at various points of interest in the night sky through telescopes, created telescope photos and viewed photographs that had been taken at the observatory over the years.

For a personal shopping experience at WNC, stop by the revamped Foundation Store next to the Information Desk in the Bristlecone Building.
New items have arrived, including backpacks, lanyards, coffee mugs, fanny packs, laptop bags, and more are on the way.
The Foundation will also provide a pop-up store with WNC items at Commencement on May 19.

Only a Week Later ....
Of course, as many people in Northern Nevada are aware, the weather can turn dramatically in no time — especially this time of the year. In late March, spring arrived on campus, with vinca and forsythia flowering and Bradford pear trees blooming in Rotary Plaza.
