Hosted by Downtown Partners, Inc. alongside Burlington Black Water Mini Golf and Mississippi Moon Ice Cream Parlor, this playful competition is the perfect mix of friendly rivalry, ridiculous fun, and sweet rewards. For just $50 per team, friends, families, coworkers, and competitive putters alike can hit the course for an experience that is all about good times and great energy.

This year, Downtown Burlington is trading the traditional Spring Open House for something far more fun.

Participating businesses will be dealing out the fun with interactive games like drawing cards for discounts, rolling dice for prizes, and unexpected perks at every stop. Dress for the theme, test your luck, and enjoy a playful day exploring local boutiques, eateries, and gathering spots.


And yes, you will still be entering to win $750 in Downtown Dollars, giving you even more reason to play along.

2026 Open 4 Business Competition


Downtown Partners, Inc., in partnership with Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, is now accepting interest for the 2026 Open 4 Business Competition.


This highly competitive statewide program supports for profit businesses located in Main Street districts, providing funding to help entrepreneurs grow, expand, and strengthen their operations

.

Downtown Burlington may nominate one business to compete. Eligible businesses must have been operating since May 1, 2025 and be currently located, or planning to locate, within the district.


The program has already delivered local success. In 2024, Thyme & Spice Co. received $26,000 to expand their specialty olive oil and vinegar offerings, and in 2022, The Beancounter Coffeehouse & Drinkery received $15,500 for Boba Tea, further energizing downtown.


Applications are due April 1. One Burlington business will advance to semifinal judging, with finalists competing at the Iowa Downtown Conference for up to $20,000 in additional funding.


Applicants must complete an online application and submit a three minute video pitch.

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend • Live Music at The Busted Cup

Get ready for a night of music, laughs, and high-energy entertainment as local favorites Aaron Lotzow and Cole Thomas go head-to-head in a lively dueling performance at The Busted Cup this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.


Known for their crowd-pleasing song selections, sharp wit, and top-tier musicianship, this dynamic duo delivers a show packed with favorite hits and plenty of hilarious banter. It is the perfect way to celebrate the weekend with friends and fellow music lovers.


Tickets are $15 and available for purchase in person at The Busted Cup. Each ticket guarantees general admission seating, with guests potentially seated at larger shared tables.

Battle of the Bands

Music lovers and aspiring performers alike are invited to experience Burlington River Days’ first Battle of the Bands at Burlington Memorial Auditorium.


This high-energy, all-ages event will showcase local and regional talent competing for a $1,000 grand prize and the opportunity to open the Saturday night rock show at Burlington River Days on June 13.


Band announcements are being revealed each Friday on the Burlington River Days Facebook page, building excitement as the competition approaches.


The event is free and open to the public, making it a perfect outing for families, friends, and live music fans.

Opening Reception • Mississippi Whispers, A Mystical Journey

The community is invited to attend the opening reception at the Art Center of Burlington, of Mississippi Whispers, A Mystical Journey, a solo exhibition by Cecile Houel, on Friday, March 6 from 5 PM to 8 PM.


This immersive collection explores the artist’s spiritual connection with the river, offering a reflective experience centered on unity, balance, and the elemental forces of earth, water, air, and fire. Guests can enjoy an evening of art and conversation while celebrating the exhibition’s debut.


The exhibition will be on view March 3 through March 28, 2026.

Visitors are also encouraged to explore the mini gallery, featuring a student exhibition from Notre Dame that highlights emerging artists and fresh creative perspectives.

The Dirty Little Secrets Comedy Show

Dirty Little Secrets is built around anonymous audience submissions that Melissa & Doug read and riff on from the stage. There are no volunteers, no pressure on the crowd, and every show is completely different. The result is a room that feels engaged, safe, and laughing together from start to finish!


Melissa Hager is a Michigan-based stand-up comedian known for her high-energy storytelling, relatable humor, and natural ability to connect with any audience. Drawing from real life, family, and everyday moments, her comedy is warm, honest, and laugh-out-loud funny without ever being mean-spirited.


A seasoned performer and producer, Melissa is the founder of The Comedy Series, one of Michigan’s most successful independent comedy productions. She’s also a familiar voice across Michigan radio and media, and brings a strong understanding of live audiences from both the performer and booker perspective. Whether headlining a theater, club, or casino, Melissa delivers a feel-good show that leaves audiences energized and wanting more.

Downtown Deets Professional Development Series for Small Businesses

Downtown Partners, Inc. is hosting Downtown Deets, a professional development series created to provide local entrepreneurs and small business owners with practical, real-world tools for long-term success.


Is Your Business Ready to Transition?, focuses on one of the most important yet often overlooked aspects of business ownership: planning for what comes next.


Whether retirement is approaching, ownership changes are being considered, or unexpected life events arise, having a clear transition strategy is critical. This interactive workshop will guide business owners through key options including selling a business, passing ownership to a successor, or closing responsibly.

Participants will engage in guided discussion and hands-on exercises while working through practical materials designed to help build a personalized exit plan.


The workshop will be led by Janine Clover, MBA, MAcc, CBA, Regional Director with America’s Small Business Development Center Iowa, in partnership with Southeastern Community College. Janine brings extensive experience helping entrepreneurs navigate growth and transition with confidence.

Earth Day Community Cleanup | April 18


Burlington residents are invited to come together for the annual Earth Day Community Cleanup on April 18 at the Port of Burlington, 400 N Front Street.


Hosted by the Keep Burlington Beautiful Committee, this free, family friendly event welcomes volunteers of all ages to help keep Burlington clean, beautiful, and thriving. Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations are all encouraged to participate.


Registration runs from 8 am to 9 am at the Port of Burlington, with cleanup activities taking place throughout the morning. Volunteers are welcome to return afterward for a light lunch followed by a free movie at the library.

Vendor Applications Now Open for Two Signature Downtown Markets


Greater Burlington is getting ready for another exciting season of Downtown events, and two of the community’s most anticipated markets are now welcoming vendors. Vendor applications are officially open for both the Jefferson Street Farmers Market and A Very Vintage Market, offering opportunities for growers, makers, and creators to be part of these signature Downtown experiences.


The Jefferson Street Farmers Market returns in May and runs through September, bringing weekly energy and activity to Jefferson Street. This long standing community favorite features fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, live music, and the vibrant atmosphere that defines summer evenings downtown. Vendor applications for the 2026 season are now open, and both returning and new vendors are encouraged to apply. Updates and announcements will be shared through the Jefferson Street Farmers Market Facebook page.


A Very Vintage Market will return for its 11th annual event on Saturday, July 18. As Downtown Burlington’s largest vintage, handmade, and antique shopping event, the market continues to attract thousands of shoppers from across the region. Vendors showcase repurposed goods, original art, curated vintage finds, and handcrafted treasures, creating a one of a kind shopping experience. Vendor applications are now open at GreaterBurlington.com, with updates shared through the A Very Vintage Market Facebook page.

Downtown Partners, Inc. Business Signage Grant Program offers applicants up to $400 in matching grant funds for perpendicular “blade” signage for their businesses!

Blade signs have several benefits:

  • Accentuating the traditional historic and walkable character of Downtown Burlington
  • Emphasizing the Downtown district as a collection of small, independent, locally owned businesses
  • Adding to the liveliness of the streetscape
  • Freeing up sidewalk space occupied by sandwich board signs
  • Encouraging businesses to explore their individuality and examine their branding
  • Increasing business visibility for potential customers who would otherwise not know anything about the business unless they were directly in front of it
