President's Letter

Dear Members, dear Colleagues,

This is the first newsletter of 2026, and once again, I am pleased to greet you and share updates on the activities and recent initiatives of our Society.

There is now less than a year to go before our 11th Congress. https://iawmh2027.org/

Registration and the call for abstracts are already open, and we warmly invite you to submit abstracts for symposia, workshops, oral presentations, and posters.

The submission deadlines are:

  • Deadline for submission of Symposia and Workshops: 31st August 2026
  • Deadline for submission of Oral communications and Posters: 30th October 2026

We are preparing a comprehensive scientific program that will include panels of experts in different fields, keynote lectures, symposia, workshops, mentoring meetings, oral presentations, and more. Alongside research findings, the program will also highlight innovative projects and examples of good clinical practice.

The theme of the congress is “Integrating a biopsychosocial approach in women’s mental health.” Our aim is to cover a wide range of topics reflecting this integrated perspective from a multidisciplinary point of view.

The list of keynote speakers is now available, and we are delighted to welcome leading experts in several areas related to women and mental health. https://iawmh2027.org/index.php/keynotes

In addition, this newsletter includes a note about the 24hr Global Webathon in celebration of International Women’s Day. The event was a great success and brought together several participating institutions. You will also be able to find the recording of the entire Webathon on the Members Only section soon.

This year we will also continue organizing webinars in collaboration with other societies and internationally recognized speakers. In February, we held a webinar on “Women Representation in Neuroscience: Where are We At?” which is available on the Members Only page, together with all previous sessions. Another webinar will take place on April 21, titled “Women’s Health Matters.”

As always, we encourage you to share your ideas, concerns, and proposals with me and the Board. Your input is essential as we continue to grow and strengthen our role as a global advocate for women’s mental health.

With my best personal wishes,

Judith Usall i Rodié

Recap of 24hour Global Webathon

in Honor of International Women's Day

Women's Mental Health in Bloom A Global Event

Marking International Women's Day 8 March 2026

• Seven Regions • 24 Hours • Nearly 2,000 Registrants

Report by: Prof. Gihan ELNahas — Vice President, IAWMH

Every two years, the International Association for Women's Mental Health (IAWMH) convenes its global conference, bringing together professionals from around the world to advance education, collaboration, and innovation in women's mental health. This meaningful event also aligns with and celebrates International Women's Day (IWD).

Following the 2025 IAWMH Conference, the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) proposed co-leading an informal global webathon to sustain momentum between major congresses. Under the auspices of the IAWMH, leading psychiatric associations across the world participated in a first-ever 24-hour webathon marking IWD 2026, focusing on all aspects of women's mental health.

This event aimed to highlight and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and professional achievements of women, while reinforcing a global call to action for advancing gender equality. Through this collaborative webathon, the world's leading psychiatric associations united to promote learning, awareness, and collective action in support of women's mental health.
