🐢 Conservationists in Action Across the Bay
The sun has been shining, and we at PWC have been taking full advantage by getting outside!
This month, our PWC Conservationists explored multiple regional parks, each offering a different way to connect with nature, build confidence, and learn something new.
At Sunol Regional Park, youth spent the day immersed in the natural environment, exploring wildflowers, learning about conservation, and enjoying open space together.
The highlight? Meeting Speedy the turtle, of course!

🚣🏼♂️ At Big Break Regional Shoreline, many of our youth kayaked for the first time. They worked together out on the water, navigated a new environment, and then visited the Big Break Visitor Center to learn about the Delta ecosystem, local wildlife, and environmental stewardship. It was a great day of confidence-building, teamwork, and all-around fun!
We also gathered with families at Thurgood Marshall Regional Park for a day of learning and reflection. Together, we explored the history of the Port Chicago 50, the 50 African American sailors who stood up against unsafe and unjust conditions following the 1944 Port Chicago explosion. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect history, community, and place while spending time outdoors.
Across each of these experiences, youth were actively engaged in learning about the environment and history and were building confidence, curiosity, and a stronger sense of connection to the world around them.
We are so grateful to our partners, the East Bay Regional Park District, for leading field trips full of environmental education, family engagement, and community connection!
