VISION: Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) envisions a healthy and thriving community.


MISSION: Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) executes innovative strategies and unites communities in preventing substance misuse and promoting mental wellness throughout Genesee County.


The Genesee County Prevention Coalition maintains regular office hours Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. If you need assistance outside of these hours, please call 810-285-9047 to make arrangements. Our primary goal is to maintain access to prevention services and resources for our community through the Prevention Portal. Please reach out to us if we can be of assistance in providing information and support for addressing substance misuse and mental health concerns.

Canvas of Change Townhall

The Genesee County Prevention Coalition invites residents to a Community Art Showcase and Town Hall on Mental Health and Substance Use Prevention. The town hall will take place for those that live or work in Argentine, Gaines, Mundy, Swartz Creek, Fenton, and the surrounding area.

What to expect:

-Discussion on substance use and mental health concerns

-Connection with community leaders & partners

-Learning about local resources & programs

-Hearing youth voices through a student panel & art showcase

The event will bring the community together with local leaders to discuss our well-being.

GCPC will host a Lunch and Learn on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 11:30am - 1:00PM. Join us for an opportunity to network and register your services in the Prevention Portal. These events are held quarterly, in person at the GCPC office located at G4428 Fenton Rd, Flint, MI 48507. Please complete the registration form to reserve your spot.

Issue #12 is available!


We are currently seeking schools, youth-serving organizations, community spaces, and local businesses to serve as distribution partners for Youth Connections Magazine. By distributing, your organization will help support local youth services, share valuable information, and strengthen community connections.

Distribution can be easily integrated into your existing outreach through:

Navigating Ethical Challenges

March 16 - 17, 2026 | 9am-12pm


This course qualifies for 6 CEs and fulfills:

Social Work: This course qualifies for a maximum of 6 CEs and fulfills the Michigan Social Work Licensing Board’s requirement for licensure renewal for ethics. 

MCBAP: Qualifies for 6 Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) –SPECIFIC contact hours.

Psychology: This course qualifies for 6.0 psychology CE credits.

Recipient Rights: This course qualifies for a maximum of 6 RR training hours.

From Data to Impact: Measuring What Matters in Substance Use Prevention

March 24, 2026 | 1pm-2pm

Session 1 will emphasize alignment among the logic model, student survey data, intervention selection, and outcome measurement. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how to use existing data sources to tell a cohesive prevention story and support continuous quality improvement.

Learning Objectives:

  • Differentiate between short-term, intermediate, and long-term outcomes in substance misuse prevention
  • Identify appropriate measures and utilize tools to track changes in youth substance use rates, related risk and protective factors and strategy outcomes.
  • Describe how outputs and intervention does contribute to short-term outcomes

Exploring Emerging Topics in Youth Substance Use

For prevention professionals, staying current is essential for ensuring programs, policies, and messaging reflect the realities teens face today. The products and cultural influences shaping youth substance use look significantly different from those of even five years ago.

Preventing Tobacco Use - 2 Part Series

March 31 & April 2, 2026 | Webinar


The training will discuss the latest evidence-based tobacco prevention strategies and where to learn more about them. Finally, it will explore the importance of policy to tobacco prevention, and the roles prevention providers can play in advancing policy solutions.

Substance Use Impact Conference for Employers and Providers

April 23, 2026 | 8am-4pm


Attendees will have the opportunity to gain valuable resources, network, and acquire new skills in prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery efforts. The breakout sessions during the summit will fall into one of two tracks. Anyone is welcome to attend the sessions that are most interesting to them.

Michigan Harm Reduction Summit

April 30 - May 1 | Lansing, Mi


This summit brings together all public health, public safety, nurses, physicians, social workers, community health workers, therapists, health educators, and professionals working in the substance use space. People with lived and living experience are also encouraged to attend.

Prevention Prepared Communities 101

May 28, 2026 | 8am-4pm

The Prevention Prepared Communities training is predicated on provider agency’s role and responsibility in producing outcomes (systems, behavioral, and process outcomes) utilizing the Strategic Prevention Framework as its guide for the individuals and communities they serve. Providers have been tasked with creating communities or systems of prevention where individuals, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and workplaces take action to promote emotional health and reduce the likelihood of mental illness, substance misuse, and suicide. (SAMHSA) This Prevention Prepared Communities (PPC) 101 training provides them with the capacity to do so.

After-Prom & Graduation Grant

Deadline March 13, 2026


Herren Project is proud to support schools and communities grants for safe, substance-free events to celebrate prom and graduation. These high school grants range from $500-$1,000. They help cover costs of after-prom and after-graduation parties that encourage healthy choices and inspire substance-free fun.
